Hey y’all I’m looking to buy a 2013 Tacoma with 93,000 miles from a local dealership. It’s only got one owner and looks really clean. They let me borrow it for a night. What should I look for or look at to make sure as best I can this is a good truck to grab.
    Thanks for any help

    Matt

Look at the frame for rust.
Also inspect it visually for any leaks while you are under there.
I’d check to see that the 4WD works along with the Locker.
They can get “finicky” when not used frequently and with age. (Age not likely in your case)
Other than that, Drive it and go from there.

Thanks. It switches really well between 2 and 4WD. Drives well. Right now I’m having an issue getting the doors to lock with the remote. They lock then unlock. Can’t get them to lock without using the key. The rear door locks but the fronts don’t when I press lock.

There’s a light that flashes on the center dash that has is a key symbol inside a truck. What’s that?
Can’t find it in the manual

    found it. Just the security.
still. Can’t figure out why the doors won’t lock with the remote.

Does that one have the backup camera in the rear view mirror?

Sounds like a door lock actuator possibly failing

Frame rust is probably the big one.

But then like was mentioned, other obvious leaks/noises.

I had my rear main seal go just before the warranty had expired, and have heard from a few others on this forum of theirs going early as well. Not super common, but seems like it could happen. So just look for oil film/spray.

Well it’s weird. It used to chirp when I unlock the doors. Now it chirps once when I lock the doors. I put the key in and turned and held it in one direction for a few seconds so I wonder if that changes the chirping

What’s the price? My 2013 Trd sport is 2wd and had 92k miles when purchased last July for 23 out the door. One owner and super clean. Just curious

Sounds like a good price. Run it by a mechanic before purchasing it. Good luck man

I would look for signs for possible flood damage. Not due to it being a Toyota or a Tacoma but due to dealers buying from auctions. Are there rust stains under the dash, dirt where it should not be, is the carpet in better shape than it should be for mileage, etc..

    I second this. .

I was in the market for a 2nd gen till a month ago. .

The first one I test drove, drove fine but when we put it up on the lift to do a pre/purchase/inspection [which should cost you 30/40$ and is totally worth it] - it was complete RUST BUCKET!!

So 3 months later, I thought I found the winner - 53K miles V6 MT OR AccessCab - one owner, it lived in Arizona for its whole life - dry heat, no salt roads etc. .
& when i took it to a local mechanic for a pre/purchase/inspection - it passed with flying colors. .
    - no play in the U/joints
    - all the fluids, including tranny/diffs were clean/new/fresh
    - all OEM glass, no evidence of damage
    - not a spec of rust
    - clearly it had been cared for, the undercarriage was in great shape as was the engine bay

    Pre/purchase Inspection all the way!!
