What's the difference between SPHD and something like SPY/VOO or VFINX?

SPY/VOO track the S&P 500. SPHD holds about 50 companies, only those that pay the highest dividends in the S&P 500. The yield on SPY is 2.04%, and SPHD is 5.97%. SPY also pays quarterly, SPHD monthly.

 

I'm assuming there's a higher risk with the SPHD? Sounds like it's a more focused version of something like SPY?

 

Probably the opposite, SPHD is supposed to be "low volatility, high dividend." The catch is, when you pile into high dividend stocks, you're foregoing growth. SPY has performed much better on a total return basis. SPHD is more of an income vehicle.

Lmao I’m an idiot. I’m actually not ballin big, my $2K in settled funds came through so it just looked I had a big gain

 

So I have a question. This is purely for the sake of asking. I dont have the money to throw away, but how hard is foreign currency trading? Say I wanted to buy a bunch of Turkish Liras or Venezuelan bolivar in hopes they would one day rebound. Is it as regulated as buying stocks? How does the government keep track of that for taxation purposes?

Thinking about putting $2K on NAIL today. Think today is the best time to buy or wait till tomorrow?

 

I regret not buying NAIL when it was at $12ish a few weeks ago.

I'll still cash out NRGU around the first week of June. My goal is ~$10ish.

 

Dang. But if you buy it now, you will be saying “I’m glad I bought NAIL at $18” when it’s at $60+ in a few months...well that’s the optimistic outlook anyway

I'm reading all of these pages of posts and keep thinking to myself, "This is why I invest in Vanguard's all stock mutual fund."

 

I know nothing about this, my cousin and Aunt do Forex trading and it seems pretty simple from their perspective, they didn’t make big money but it seems to be a supplement to her Ebay Sales.

 

Soliciting advice on when to dump LUV. Or do I keep it in the back pocket and hope something good happens in the next 6 months?

 

I would never suggest blindly following Buffett, but when he gets out of all airlines, I think I'd cut my losses and do the same.

 

Honestly I'm starting to trend to thinking this is the way to go too. Right now I'm in it through Betterment but will probably start self directing that instead soon to eliminate their fees.
