On my 3rd gen double cab,I used about 30 sqft and just covered the back. I covered and taped EVERYTHING from the floor to the bottom edge of the windows.

Found this from a Q/A on Amazon: "Noico 80 mil has a working temperature from - 49 degrees to 212 degrees F with allowance for only short term heating of up to 392 degrees F."

Not maaterials expert but Google says butyl rubber typically gets soft at around 248F 120C. I have no idea what glue they are using.

So I guess if you're going to wrap your headers, it would be best to do it with the foil side in.

Did you ever find a solution?

One idea I has was to test out taping all the seams and get on the highway. It'll look dumb but it costs nothing and would allow you to see what you're missing.

    As a side note,
world record bicycle speed runs they use clear packaging tape to seal up the carbon fiber canopy. I remember hearing that those small seams were responsible for more than 50% of the drag. On flat road they get to around 75mph, no drafting or tail wind.

I'd say that's a good 80%. Also, this stuff works by absorbing vibrations. It has little sound "blocking" properties on its own. So covering bent or perforated metal (which vibrates very little) would only be of marginal benefit. The real vibration deadening comes from applying it to flat metal.

Haha that's epic. I tried the irrigation tubing solution (basically shove a 3/8" plastic tube in the weathersealing crease to make it "thicker") and it helped a little. Still hear the wind through the door cracks at highway speeds though

I haven't tried. Maybe I will after I do the front doors maybe this weekend.

I'm not 100% sure but I feel like a lot of the noise is coming from the mirrors.

There is one piece of what I think is sound deadener near the top center of the front door. It peels up easy with just your fingers. Feels like rubber. Approximately 6x6 inches. I know it doesn't look square, it probably wasn't. Just a guess on the size.

This picture was taken with my phone practically inside the door pointing up. The bottom of the window should be just above the top of the photo

    This is on a 2018

Nice. I didn't notice too much increase in noise after installing these beefier mirrors, which leads me to believe it's mostly the door crack whistling. I just might have to try the clear packing tape experiment

The Noico butyl is good to a 212 degree working temperature, shouldn't be an issue.

True about the 80% coverage but I think the missed opportunity here was not covering all the holes in the door for your improved speaker performance.

I used 37 square feet to do my doors and back panel to the front of the storage compartments under the seats. Noico recommends 15 sq ft for the roof on a double cab, total of 53 sq ft. I will be doing my roof once it warms up.

So is this just for noise, or does it help with heat/cold control as well?

Depends on what you use, butyl doesn't have an R rating but closed cell foam does. I opted for a layer of both.

The butyl does dampen noise from rain on the roof but not much otherwise.

I suppose you could make the argument that if you seal off the unnecessary holes and gaps in the doors w/ the deadener and install some close cell foam as well, it could maybe prevent the cold air from drafting through the doors and panels. Same w/ the floor and roof. I've seen claims that the heat barrier products reduce temps inside, but I honestly didn't notice much difference. My sunglasses are still super hot if I leave them in the overhead bin on a mid-summer day.
