What are you in it for? I'm in RCL until they break even for what I'm in it for, then I'm out. Might be a month but once we break even I'm leaving cruise lines.

I took massive losses today, but put what I could salvage back to work. I think I’ve changed my philosophy, if a company cuts or suspends its dividend, I’m out and I’ll take the losses.

I got in right before warren pissed on airlines, was up a couple a share on 100 shares, now down about 4. So not a big loss right now, but tough cutting 400 free only holding for a week.

    Hey everyone,
I’ve been watching this thread for awhile now. I’m in Canada and invest mostly in Canadian companies. Mostly telecoms, banks, pipelines, and REITs so far. I’m in the dividend style of investing (5.17% overall yield).
Lots of good reading in here so far

I guess I'll rotate the rest of my safe money back to equities in my 401k, it appears that even after tapering off QE the market is still going up. Idk man. Not gonna try to make sense of this anymore lol

depending on your financial literacy, you'll either think he's an idiot or a genius.

I'm a big fan, but his philosophy doesn't work for everyone.

Probably good if you know nothing; if you have a grasp on things I wouldn't do everything he says.

Im not a big fan, but maybe I just get annoyed by someone marketing and making money off mostly common sense. And I usually push against cult like followings in any case. But picking through his “teachings” won’t hurt anyone.

I agree with most of what you're saying. However, common sense is not common. "Common Sense" is learned either through your own personal trials or being smart and learning from where others have failed. He is passing along his experience and people are being helped.

I don't follow all of his advice and me and the wife are doing just fine.

He's a fine gentleman but his target audience is "I started a new job and have a 4100K and don't know what it means". He's really good at teaching people how to get their feet wet and the basic average joe schmo investor.

A big disagreement I have with Dave Ramsey is from a recent segment I watched. He basically said he just picks the mutual funds that performed the best in the past, and he is crushing the market that way. It's actually the opposite and there are studies out there on it, the mutual funds that performed the best often don't do well going forward. His advice to invest is obviously great advice, even if you don't pick the best funds, but he's way off on that.

I kinda agree with all of y’all. I was recommended to check him out and I did and most of his teachings were common sense things that I was already doing, most of his points and videos I saw I was saying “well duh of course you do that”. Just making sure I wasn’t alone, people in my circle (both in person and social media) rave highly about him, I didn’t really get it

Does his method give you returns, and does it give you decent returns? Can the average joe schmo understand how this fund vs that fund performed in 2017, 18?

His target audience is "financial entry point", so to speak. The kind of people who hear "Pick the best mutual funds" and their next question is "What is a mutual fund", in which case, absolutely - just pick the best, you'll get a decent ROI, etc etc. With him you have to strike that balance of "Does this make sense to me....Does this make sense to that turkey down the road...."

I think he's advocating for investing, which is great if people take his advice. I just don't buy for a second what he claims his returns are (something like 13% annually for 30+ years).

It's scary though how many people out there are surprised at the concept of not overspending their income.
