I didn't think Rush was that hard on your truck, darker colors do show scratches much worse! Their trails aren't that tight.
Your friend did a solid job!

Pretty sure I haven't actually washed mine in about a year...

Ripped off all four mudflaps. Scratches all down both sides 6112’s up front on 3rd notch 5100’s in back with Toytech 1” block Skids & sliders from SOS Concepts I got rid of the 1” block and put on Wheelers 1 1/2” progressive AAL. SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
UPS said they couldn’t get a 28’ pup into my neighborhood so I went to Indy to pick up my bumpers.
When I bought them I was informed I had won their $350 raffle, so I asked them if that would cover powdercoating and they said yes, so that’s what I chose.

    I’m guessing they forgot

I assume you ordered bumpers and received them bare metal? Pics?

See if they'll foot the bill to get them done locally for you

Yes. I should’ve taken pics but I already dropped them off at a local shop to have them powdercoated.

I don't even remember that now, white truck = easy scratch coverage. But I do remember climbing that nice runoff by camp, among a few other things.

I hope, maybe, we can get back there again this August. They just reopened after about 4 weeks of closure, but only to season pass holders for the time.

    Thanks!

Once I got the spare tire and cable assembly out of the way, it wasn’t that bad of a process. I hit all the visible rust with a heavy duty paint/rust remover grinding wheel and a wire brush then I used compressed air to get all the dust and debris off. After that I just sprayed on a few thin coats of the paint.

And yeah, I’ve been really impressed with Rustoleum Rust Reformer so far. I sprayed the rear diff with it about a year and a half ago and as you can see in the before picture, it was in much better shape than the trailer hitch. I used a different Rustoleum product on the hitch when I had it off the truck and clearly that didn’t hold up worth a crap.

How long did that take you? You should see if you qualify for the latest frame campaigns related to 2nd and early 3rd gens

Edit: Also, tips to remove the spare winch? I should take mine off since I'm likely to never have stock tires on

Is that for one side or both??
Just wanting to make sure I have enough stuff once I get started. I’ve got 700lb coils ready and would like to do it all at once.

I have the letter from Toyota about the frame. My truck is covered through September of 2021 and it doesn’t really look bad enough to warrant a replacement right now. I’ve taken a hammer and a chisel to the “weak” spots and can’t puncture it. So rather than deal with them spraying that wax looking shit inside it (the new “preventative” measure), I figured I’d just clean it up and paint it. Then, sometime early next summer I’ll take it in and have them inspect it to see if I qualify for a replacement. I’m sure I can manage to puncture a 10mm hole (or whatever size they need to see) up near one of the cats before then.

And from start to finish, with a break for lunch, it took me about six hours to do that rear section of the frame and trailer hitch. I spent a lot of time grinding what was left of the paint I used last time off the hitch, which sucked. And, I fought with the stupid spare tire for at least an hour... my truck had some kind of f*cking lock on the spare that required a key added to the end of the hook to spin the cable down. Thankfully, I eventually found said key and was able to drop it.

As for removing the cable winch, it isn’t hard, just make sure you have a 12mm ratchet wrench on hand because you can’t get a socket wrench up under the bed and the bolts are in there from the top. I used a regular 12mm wrench to break all four bolts loose and to completely remove the first bolt. That took so long I decided to dig through my tools to see if I had the correct size ratchet wrench. Once I found that, I had the cable winch out in minutes.

I believe it's both sides. Should have a total of 4 larger bushings. I've not used that, but it seems to be the recommended rebuild to get around the OEM bushing seizure
