WARN Locking Hubs

Am interested in replacing original Toyota manual hubs, which are making ugly noises, with the WARN Premium locking hub (Part # 60459). I searched this site and found no discussion but maybe I missed it.

I assume I am not the first person to want to do this and am curious if anybody has experiences good or bad with Warn hubs on Tacomas.

The factory asian hubs are better than the warns hubs, just rebuild yours and save money

 

I really like Warn, but have broken 3 pairs of their "Premium" manual hubs(not on a taco). Mainly in extreme cold weather when they hubs would not disengage. I know many who have run Toyota's stock manuals with no issues. In my mind Warn is the only other legit choice.

 

Warn hubs have a lifetime warrantee (or atleast they did)..... Did you get free replacements?

I had one premium hub fail on my jeep many many years ago. Got it replaced for free and they worked flawlessly for 6 years until I sold the Jeep.

Granted - every year, I took all that shit apart. Checked/changed seal, repacked/retorqued bearings, and reinstalled hubs. In terms of the hubs themselves.... with a lot of offroad usage, the bolts that hold the main cap on, get bent often and need replaced.

one poster recommended rebuilding the stock hubs. is there a kit available to do this or do you need to get in there, figure out what's not right, and then order parts?

this is actually my brother's truck. he doesn't do any heavy 4 wheeling - just uses it for all the snowy months in the mountains of utah where he lives.

 

Definitely open them up first. They may just need to be re-greased

 

my brother tells me the hubs were regreased not too long ago when he had some brake work done. are the locking hubs separate? in other words, would they have been regreased at the same time or would it be a separate job? if it's separate, then i bet you're right that he just needs to open them up and grease them.

 

They were covered under warranty, but a pain in the ass to process. The Warn shop didn't seem very happy to replace them.
