Thanks for that. I am thinking about doing all the cables. Sizes matter

I did manage to fuck up earlier. I was pulling the rear brake cable tight through the neck and went to tighten the screw. Felt like it stripped out and my heart dropped, went to back out and the head broke off the original screw. A little upset to lose the original but hated it anyway. Getting replaced with an Allen screw.

Maybe I should take care of it better. Back when I bought it, this particular year an model (performer) wasn’t that expensive. I know the pro performers have been expensive though.

Oh you mean the fixing bolt on the front? Check the first page of this thread, it's a long read but has the parts list for the hardware you can get at Home Despot or Lowe's and it's already been confirmed to work as a direct swap. Work smarter not harder. Guy who started the thread is a Spin Tech guru

    https://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=376563

Nothing wrong with that as it sits man, it's original and that only happens one time. Maybe a little cleaning but don't go repainting stuff, I wouldn't..

Look a few pages back at my before/after, I did repaint my Schwinn but the original paint was buried and couldn't be gotten to without ruining it anyways.

Looks fine by me. Sometimes it's better to replace those type of fasteners anyway especially if they're acting up

I was a little worried that everything I loved about my bike 30 years ago was just me as a kid. Anyway I got the exact same bike I had and it’s honestly better than I remember. I appreciate the over engineering that went into selling bikes back then. Especially after buying new age bikes for my kids
