Tie Rod???

So I remember on all pro website that they had offroad "hd" inner/outer tie rod kit aka offroad steering kit. I see that it is gone off the site are they not making it anymore??? Is there another brand out there for making a good inner/outer tie rod set that is "hd"??? Thanks guys!!!! And this is for my 2006 Tacoma DB 4x4....

Wonder how many people go wheelin' with a spare set of inner/outer tie rods. There is a video of a Hummer snapping his. Brutal yet very funny.

 

I got a used set of the allpro HD tierods.....new inner and outer joints included. $375 shipped lower 48...........

no toe is good but i installed oe toyota ones cause they went bad did some wheeling up North in the Forks and they went bad and one twisted lol. so i'd like to get a more heavy duty tie rod setup and I was told that they are pretty weak. A guy I work with is a toyota GENIUS (in my eyes at least) and he even told me that the inner/outer tie rods are not that strong for wheeling. The allpro price is pretty steep but the whole new inner/outer on both sides is about the same price so I'd rather go bigger and better.

 

who sells. and will this get rid of bump steer for the street trucks???

Its still offered with their long travel kit, so I dont see why they wouldnt be able to sell them individually anymore. Call them up or PM them, they are quite helpful, and they would be able to answer your question a lot easier then us here.

 

the threaded rod ends are different lengths for the Long Travel kit since its wider.

Jack at AP told me earlier this week that they quit because the HD tie rods needed to be checked for torque and lubed periodically and that people weren't doing that and I guess having some issues.

He said they could do it on an individual basis, but you had to understand what you needed to do to keep them operational.

Still debating this. There's an extensive thread on the FJ Forum: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...ll-pro-heavy-duty-steering-links-why-how.html that debates the pros and cons vs damage to the steering rack. Waiting now for some feedback from Toyota to decide.

Priced a full OEM replacement (both ends, rod, boot) and it's over $200.

Never broke one myself, so still trying to figure out what you have to carry for an in field fix (just the inner end??) and whether or not there are left and right differences.

 

In order to check the torque on the bolt that attaches to the steering rack u have too remove the boot along with the inner rod bolt. The boots included in the allpro kit were difficult to attach to the steering rack as well. They may have changed these at this point though.

1. u gotta jack the vehicle up 2. remove the boot 3. remove the inner rod bolt 4. torque the steering rack bolt 5. place the inner rod end and bolt back in torque it down 6. lube the joints 7. place the boot back on the rack 8. Let the jack back down. 9. Check the outer torque numbers......Repeat for the other side. So, your looking at 20-30 minutes per side to check torque numbers. It isn't exactly as simple as checking torque.
