So i am taking my truck to an offroad shop near my house to get my new CV boots on and when i got off the freeway my truck just died. I can start it and run the truck with my foot on the gas but i cant keep it idling, or else it just completely shuts off. i checked for loose vacuum hoses and battery connections but i have no idea why it would do this so randomly. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me because i over used seafoam. Have you recently done seafoam treatments? Maybe the spark plugs are fowled. Pull one out and check it, if it's black, change them all. I used the NGK iridiums and they're spendy but awesome, helps with mpg too.

it has something to do with gas...think about it the truck will only stay on if it give it gas, if you let off the truck dies...check for loose plug. i.e.:mass air flow, tps, map sensor...

also check to see if your getting enough fuel pressure, if not enough pressure, fuel pump could be bad

does your truck rev up just fine when you gas it to keep it from shutting off or does it putters and struggle?

sounds like the mass air flow sensor or more probably the idle air control valve

Check the air filter box back to the throttle body, My dads truck started acting like that one time and then it died completely and would not start at all. Come to find out the hose from the air filter had come off.

check your efi relay. swap it out with the abs relay or similar in the fuse box and see if it works. my truck had the same issue at one time it sounds like. just throwing that out there, I believe it is electrical though. hope that helps.

IAC really isnt too bad, you have to take off the throttle body to get to it though, and if i recall correctly its a toyota only part. if you go there and ask for a labor manual they may give it to you

I was thinking fuel problem also, but if it was the pump they usually just quit not linger on,no matter how you pump the gas pedal, thats how mine went out just died would not start or idle at all.
