I do have a 2nd gen, but when I added my cap my bed was fine. I had it on for 2 years before be stiffeners. when I put my Cali-Raised stiffeners on, I had to use a racket strap to pull in the sides. the gap was bigger than I thought. Cap or not, bed stiffeners are always a great investment.

Wow the side rails didn't flex out like I was picturing from the bottom.

I wonder if that's due to driving too fast on bad roads and causing all the shell/rtt weight to bounce on the rails. Just one more reason why I'd never get a rtt.

I don’t think I paid that much but I’ve had them for a couple years.

Edit: Just found my receipt, $155. Bought them on EBay.

    welcome.

couple thousand for a rooftop tent, and few hundred for aluminum bed rack, and you are hesitant to spend 150 on bed stiffeners?

After reading all the previous discussions on this topic last fall, I ordered Total Chaos stiffeners while my 2020 was still being built. When I put them on during the first week, I discovered the left side of the bed was out of square. Stiffener fixed it. Considering how much I paid for my AG Pro and top of the line Leer shell, its a great insurance policy.

    Mods? Yes.
We have a 99 that has had a shell on it on/off over the last 20 years. Tailgate fell open while my dad was driving it a couple months ago. Got a ratchet strap and pulled the bed rails together to close the almost 1/4-1/2" gap that opened.

Totally different bed design, but the concept is the same.

I’m not concerned about the cost, more concerned about whether or not it just moves (or even aggravates) the problem to other areas.

Where would the problem move to?

I've had my TC stiffeners sitting in the garage for close to a year. I keep meaning to get around to it... then I imagine drilling into to the truck and put it off for a few more weeks. I will get around to it eventually.

My Leer 180 was installed within a week of the truck hitting the road in 2011. 9 years later and yes, the gaps are spreading, and small cracks are forming in the corners of the bed. I've never put any weight on top of the Leer.

That bed might be the cleanest I’ve seen. Damn I’m jealous. We live down 2.5 miles of dirt road and my bed just stays filthy with the topper on. I plan to seal up the bed rail caps next time I take the topper off to see if it will help.

I ended up going with a newer company called Ranch. I got their fusion topper with the HD reinforced roof to support the weight of the tent.

I almost picked up a Weimerainer pup a couple months back. My wife and I have been looking for a house to buy for almost a year. First thing I’m going to do after buying the house is buy a hunting pup.
