nice! If it helps, I've always learned quicker if I had specific goals. Like learn a specific song, or get a specific technique down.

I’ve been following along with the Fender lessons and have been progressing nicely. When not doing lessons, ive been working on learning Lazy Eye. I’ve gotten a LOT better playing that song in just a couple weeks already. Been having a lot of fun learning

I wish I had that stuff available when I was learning, or at least youtube. I had to just listen on CD over and over until I think I got it down. So many more cool tools now!

Not doing much music wise this week.
Maybe try and disassemble my ground control pedal as there is a button that's sticking.

Other than that, just trying to finish up the work week tonight.

been getting more serious with home recording. downloaded the 90-day free trial of Ableton Live and will probably end up buying the full program. also taking a free online course to learn the ins and outs of it. pretty straight forward with some out of the box workflows. Ableton specializes in time warping and using clips. i like recording 4-5 riffs and then moving them around to arrange a song. mostly play metal and rock music but i've been branching into electronic music (mostly 80s revival synthwave type stuff), so i've bought a couple synths and now i'm learning how to program my own presets and brushing up on my keys playing.

(not my track, but a big influence)

guitar-wise, working on song-writing. none of my bands are practicing right now so it's a good time to work on new ideas and rework some old ones. i posted a few clips some pages back, though very barebones, just 2 guitar tracks. also part of learning Ableton as it's a different workflow than traditional DAWs like Cubase and Pro Tools.

    Same, but only 1 guitar.
Suffered an angus style setback some years ago but not as bad as what he went through, and I will get over it.

Chords and scales chords and scales. Learning a few songs along the way to keep it fun.

That's cool! recording/mixing is a whole other skill set for sure! I've only dabbled by recording a couple rough demos of songs and sending them to our Lead singer/rythm guitarist so he can do a better recording and get it out to the rest of the band.

I was looking at our calendar and next gig would have been 5/15, I'm about ready to start playing out again!

same. our last show was 13/Mar, one of the last ones in the area before everything shut down. sucks because we were just getting into the swing of things again.

i'm not too bad with recording. levels, check. push the button and play in time. but the mixing part has always screwed me up. now i know what a compressor does and how to EQ things to better fit the whole of the song (tip: use EQs to cut, not boost). i've learned how to properly sculpt a song so the dynamics of every instrument shine through, buuuuuuuuut... i also like over-compressing things to the point where the waveform is a giant block and everything is louder than it needs to be. :headbang:

So I'm heading to the shop today to help my son pick a new guitar. I want to get a 3/4 or mini. I think I'm starting to lean towards acoustic, but I know he likes the "too large" electric he already has. Any brands I should avoid? As this is a learning model, I still don't want junk as nobody will practice if it sucks. I also don't want to break the bank.

    Thanks

what's your budget? Mini Martins and Baby Taylors exist and they have good resale value if he gives up. also i think Ibanez makes a parlor acoustic that's 3/4 size.

If I could keep it around $200 I think that's a decent price point. If its a little more that's fine.

I've always had a good opinion of entry level Yamaha stuff, not sure what there lineup is like for shorter scale guitars though.

When I was looking a month or so ago, I was set on getting a Yamaha FS800. I did not end up with that, but I read lots of good reviews. I think it should run you right around 200.

Nice! My headphones are out for delivery today. They weren’t supposed to be here until next week so I’m stoked. Guess I’ll be playing the ES today haha although I could plug the hummingbird in too
