Because there is always one asshole that says to make a false claim in these threads. Usually it’s “say it was a hit and run,” type comment.

Well this devolved a bit. Also I have an update.

The damages are scratches. Insurance will replace them, because they're scratched. LCAs. Because they're scratched.

NOW, further damages - the receiver chain mounts were bent a bit, that doesn't surprise me. AND the frame engine mount cross member where the LCA is mounted to, is bent inward toward the LCA - this was the lost in communication from tech to advisor to customer (idiot). Pictures to be added to OP.

I've decided to cancel the claim and eat the damages. There's no damages I see that need a repair today to be safe, or even really needed. I tanked the thing, that's not being hidden. But, should be fine to drive.

PS - since the engine cradle is damaged, insurance would need to replace it as part of a claim. Makes sense. That's part of the frame. So, based on the damages, they're saying they'd need to replace the frame, plus the other components already mentioned (LCAs, skids, etc). I have the quote written up sitting on my passenger seat, I can upload that later but - wasn't really interested in it once I was able to walk through the damages and really see everything they were talking about.

    Purchased.

I wanted a tacoma for years to use in the trails. Used isn't worth it for these things, so new it was. I went into the trails. It handled it A-OKAY if I was less of an idiot and had better/real skids it would have been fine.

Yup, factory skids - I'll be looking to upgrade those, OR look at leaving the truck as a road vehicle and getting a jeep to hammer on the trails.

They are fine actually. I'm going to add a few pictures that show the frame engine cradle was bent, that's what the service advisor was talking about, and lost in the communication chain. Jack point is fine, just bent up a bit. Frame is still straight, they checked the alignment and whatnot when it was in the shop.

    And, two last things.

    1. The grinding/oscillating noise stopped...
    2. I can't say this enough, DON'T BE LIKE ME. If you're going to take your truck off road, know your limits and abilities. Don't be an idiot. And if you want to do things beyond your limits, get your truck up to those limits - sliders, skids, tires (although...so far no major complaints about my tires...) Use me and this thread next time someone posts a question "How good is the truck off road?", because they're likely to want to do the same s$%& I did.

Glad to see how you responded to a lot of the trolls on this thread, didn't engage and such and owned up. I personally hate it when I'm looking for advice as you are and people say things like, "just don't drive it like that and it wouldn't have happened" smh. Anyway I think you're making the right call.

I messed up one of my rear doors pretty good in a similar situation even with armor, but similar to what you said, it's a truck to do truck stuff with.

OP: Have you had an alignment done? That will tell a lot as to the extent of the damage and does it need to be fixed.

I have not, they checked the frame but I added more pictures and explained the damages, I don't think there's any damages to any drive components at all. I will probably take it in for an alignment soon, or at least a DIY check with a tape measure.

I debated the same, but in the end turned mine into insurance ($6k in my case). I think it's ironic that your frame damage (functional) is cheaper to repair than my sheetmetal and paint damage (aesthetic). It says something about our society and human nature.

Oh - no...that 4500 was before they talked about frame damages. The frame is another 15k so we're approaching totaled territory with that. Sales guy Service Advisor recommended I follow through with insurance, so they can total it and get a new truck.

    Yikes!

For what it's worth, I put a small scratch in my brand new fender this past weekend when I slightly miscalculated the distance between a severe drop off and a very large rock.

    Stop being a Debbie Downer.

What else do we have to do during covid19? It's like being back in my small town where we dragged tv sets (remember CRTs?) behind my truck with a log chain to pass the time.

"Act of God" LOL. Hail or tornado would be an act of god. Not a collision with a fixed object (ie. The ground). They will cover it but it will be at fault and subject to a deductible.

yeah, a nice offroad weekend on the trail could have equaled a totaled truck covered by insurance I wonder how the insurance carrier would recoup that kind of a loss on a new $45k ride:confused:hmmm oh thier loss just magically dissappears:cookiemonster:

I have no idea how you came up with people riding dirt bikes, street bikes and go carts affecting you. There is no fraud involved with riding, crashing and using insurance. Same as if you crash your truck.

ME - yeah, no they would cover it under collision/comprehensive or whatever, and likely would add an at fault collision to my record, but would cover it.

The guy you quoted - Road debris is typically covered after deductible. I know someone who had the act of god thing happen when their car got hit by lightning, but their insurance didn't cover acts of god, so they didn't cover it (second or third hand story, so could be total BS).

Well, you'll be happy to know I don't plan to continue with insurance :D

PS - I'm in Rhode Island. We're talking for me and my wife in two normal cars (her camry, my tacoma) about 200/month. Welcome to RI insurance premiums. Before this I had a 2012 Mazda 3, insurance stayed the same when I got the new truck.

This "act of god" insurance thing I've never heard of in Minnesota. Is that a bible belt thing?
