found some 2011 rims/tires with sensors. Will they work on my 2017 with programming?

They should but from a 2011, they’re nearing the end of the battery life for the sensors so there’s no telling how long they’d last before needing to be replaced.

    Edit:
They might not be fully compatible.

Didn’t think of the upgraded monitoring on third gens with actual pressure read outs as opposed to the dummy light on second gens.

Curious also, whether the 2nd gen TPMS gives enough info to work on 3rd gen.

Also curious if 3rd gen TPMS will work on 2nd gen.

On my Autel TS401 TPMS scanner, the vehicle selection differentiates between 2nd gen and 3rd gen, and will not read a 2nd gen TPMS if vehicle is selected as a 3rd gen, and vice versa.

The TPMS are 315MHz for both 2nd gen and 3rd gen.

Clear as mudd :) Same frequency? That sounds like it should? Anyone know from experience?

Pretty sure they work but only display the low pressure light, not the actual pressure readout like the third gen ones

Just told the fella I was out due to the tpms issue. He says they are off a 2011 4runner. Gen 5? Ya'll think that changes anything?

No lights. But doesn’t read numbers.

Didn’t even think of the pressure monitoring (actual numbers). I retract my previous comment.

Do your current factory wheels not have TPMS sensors?

Although the 2nd gen has the dummy light, the actual 2nd gen TPMS modules DO report the actual pressure. I use the Autel TPMS reader to check the PSI pressure in my tires, rather than using a gauge. So much easier.

Yes my 2017 wheels have sensors. I want a second set of wheels and tires for winter. My stocks spin in wet grass. Want a second set with some KOs or KM3s

You could get the wheels with the 4runner sensors and see if someone will trade you for the 3rd gen taco ones.

That's what I did, straight trade sensors for sensors and now my stock steel wheels have snow tires and my summer alloys have TPMS

It may be old info for this thread by now... I see that 3rd gen tpms sensors don't work in 2nd gen, and 2nd gen does not seem to work in 3rd gen. I just tried to use my 2011 2nd gen wheels on my 2021 Taco, entered the tpms id's via obd II port but it does not seem to register. As soon as I enter 3rd gen tpms id's again, all turns back to normal.

No, will not work either way.

    2011 Tacomas are 2nd Gen.

I have bought two different wheels that were on two different 2nd Gen Tacoma’s and they will it work on the 3rd Gen.

T4R sensors work in 2nd Gen Tacomas which do not work in 3rd Gen Tacomas.
