I think so. We won’t voluntarily destroy our country more than we already have.

When they report around 75% of the job losses are considered temporary, I don’t think the employment number carry as much weight. We need to remember, this isn’t a traditional financial crisis driven by issues in the economy. So they are unemployed now, but projecting ahead optimistically, the unemployment won’t stay like this. Not everything will be back to pre covid levels, but it will bounce back. Everything other than my LUV stock likely

Well the fed is pumping out cash which causes inflation...which increases the price of securities...So if the market had zero change the fed's action would increase the price of shares while still having the same "buying power" cash equivalent...Now stack that + movement on top of the impact green days have on buyers and computerized trading working off green movement and you get a bull run...So when does it stabilize? Perhaps the Corona crash was just what the market needed to kick the legs out of the pumped up market and then give it a chance to grow again. The fed is pumping again...This of course only hurts those who SELL...those who buy can 2x up or (NAIL 10x up). It rewards those with capital...
That's just what I've taken from this. It's the only thing that can explain Disney closing out over $109 today...Sentiment and people 100% looking long term.
Retail sector is what I would worry about. I don't know how they float through 6 months of dead time with their winter inventory still hanging on the racks in the stores...
Gold goes up regardless of the economic situation. It's the only precious metal that does. In a recession the value of Platinum, Silver, Palladium etc actually goes down because their price is mostly governed by industrial demand. Gold is the one precious metal that people want in good times AND bad...William Devane isn't pulling your leg :) Look at the charts.

Exactly. I also keep hearing “well when they get back to work, they won’t be spending money because they don’t have any to spend and it won’t be put back into the economy therefore the economy won’t be strong”. I don’t buy it, those people that previously lived paycheck to paycheck spending money willy nilly will continue to spend money silly billy

Also I’m like desperately waiting for places to open up and am roaring to go out and spend money. I’ve been working this whole time though and trust me, when the bars open, the people who have been essential this whole time will want to go out. All the cooped up people. All the missed celebrations that are postponed. When we get going shits gonna take off.

I haven’t shaved or had a hair cut since this whole shin dig started. I do my own but I decided I was going to do the whole castaway look until I can eat at the restaurant up the road from work. Take out doesn’t count.

I fall into the opposite camp of many. I havent skipped a beat as far as work is concerned. Ive found a lot of joy working on my own stuff at home and working on my personal business. I'm sure when we're in full swing I'll be Jonesin though. I have really wanted to go to vegas for a while... maybe it'll be a bunch of pent up energy lol

you and the rest of the city ;) wife and i decided we will wait a month before eating out once ours open back up for that reason.

many of our places here are struggling to get employees to come back since the higher unemployment benefits mean they can not work and make more money. wish the employer could report that to the labor folks and cut their rate rather than allowing them to mooch.

I think it was Disney in Shanghai they said will open at 30% capacity and it sold out tickets almost immediately. I think older people and people with impaired immune systems will be slow to venture out, but it looks like a lot of people are ready to go out. Concerts, sports stadiums/arenas, movie theatres will be hampered until they can figure out how to space people apart adequately. But as it starts to slowly happen, the "experts" will realize they overreacted to this whole thing (I sure hope and don't expect a 2nd wave like the first). I'm ready to get back to the bar and I don't care about sitting next to someone else. You can't live in fear about it.

My wife and I are not mooching, we were both let go due to this plandemic and have taken the appropriate unemployment benefits. My wife has been with her employer for 20 years. Unemployment benefits run out and we are aware of that. Id rather be working

I started a 13 week vacation literally days before the lockdown. I'm just rolling with it. Got a lot done on the truck. Got a lot done around the house. Started playing around with an IRA leftover from my first job right about when things went to total crap. I hadn't realized that I could buy stocks with it and that account isn't factored into my retirement so it became play money. I'm up on pretty much everything I've bought at this point, so that's fun. Haven't started selling yet, I figured that I can sit on it for a while. I'll have to fly when I go back to work. It's going to be interesting to see how that all pans out since I might have to quarantine upon arrival. We've been picking up take out several times a week, which is more than we usually do. It'll be nice to sit in a restaurant again.

The feds causing price inflation as they print away in the stock market, not deflation. They are devaluing the dollar everyday.

    Thank you FLIR.

On April 20th I picked up 3 May 15 $35 Calls. Total premium was $1730. Today I sold those calls for $4227.90. Net gain is $2497.70 or 39%. Not bad for an 18 day hold.

Of course I'm about to loose that much on ROKU calls so it's a good thing I got at least one right. Today I also picked up 2 more NVDA June 19 $320 calls. They report on the 21st so it should be a short hold as well.

Hmm so I’m still “safe” with my investments. Only lost 3% since before. Had been throttle off since a bit before this happened. Trying to wait till I throttle back down to a standard spread with mostly index funds. I suspect Everything has to dive again. Right? Historic unemployment?! The low can’t have hit yet right??? Or did I waffle it?

Some areas have already hit their low and others haven't. This will not progress like a normal recession and shouldn't be played like one. Look around you and the rest of the US, and see what is growing and what is not, then invest accordingly.

That’s a good point but a bit beyond my particular style.

I do mostly index funds not trying to research handpicked items. I acknowledge that I am not trying to beat the market average. I don’t have the time/extra brains to study up to where I would feel informed enough. I will be happy getting close to market average. I am more concerned with the silly attempt to not re-engage before we drop. Again I feel that as an average we will plummet before we rise.

edit: I did pull out a bit before corona hit to ensure I could cover my home remodel. But now I figure I’m better off paying the note than losing the interest over the next 15+ years.

didnt imply you were, sorry if it was taken that way.
the first part of the comment was about eating out. 2nd part of the comment was the struggle our restaurants were having in "rehiring" their employees they let go in order for them to collect the unemployment. they are being offered a job and refusing it due to the benefits.

Just wanted to point out that many are not trying to take advantage of the situation. For those that are, like I said, benefits will run out
