    It's an eye opener, I guarantee it. :thumbsup:

    It's interesting that our so-called "childhood diseases" were once devastating plagues in antiquity.
    It's actually in a disease organism's best interest to not kill its hosts.
    That way it keeps the chain of infection going, given a large enough host population.

    Particularly lethal plagues put themselves out of business.
    (Thinking the Pneumonic form of Bubonic Plague here).
    Milder strains prevail over the long term.

    There are always going to be new diseases that make the jump to humans.
    Survivors pass on their genes and the population as a whole adapts and develops immunities.
    The diseases organism adapts as well.
    It's an arms race that is never won.

    It's also particularly interesting that many of our earliest known diseases originated in herd animals.
