Got it..... it looks like the handguard had been epoxied, I just popped it with a screwdriver.

The forward front sight (gas block) is definitely pinned (pins are tapered driven left to right to remove). If the front break is pinned, the pin can be drilled out and the muzzle break unscrewed. If you are uncomfortable with either of these processes, you will need to take it to a gunsmith or risk destroying the gas block and/or barrel. The cost of a gunsmith and replacement hand guard will outweigh replacing the upper in total. Radical Firearms, PSA, and CBC all make a milspec upper that will meet your requirements at a very reasonable price ($200-250).

So, I got a Q Trash Panda for my 308 Bolt and it is amazing for that. It also came with a 1/2 x28 cherry bomb so I put that on my 18" AR barrel. The AR has an adjustable gas block and suppressor optimized charging handle. I took it off after 6 months and a bunch of trips. I just don't think suppressing an AR has high upside and it comes with a list of minor annoyances. A suppressed AR is still loud and will always have the sonic crack and the noise from cycling. It wont be AS loud but buying your first suppressor for an AR will make you really question suppressors value.

Next, if you are hanging a 30 cal can on the end of an AR barrel (especially a big one like a Q) you will absolutely notice the extra length. AR people like a 14.5" pin and weld over a 16" because they care about 1.5". Now add 8" plus the weight and it turns your AR into a bench only gun. So I took my nice ultralight 18" barrel build and turned it into a cumbersome gassy beast just so I could be slightly quieter (and look cool, to be honest). I gave it a fair try and found it wasn't worth it for me.

All that said, as a 3rd or 4th suppressor I'd absolutely consider a dedicated 556 can. Something short and light, knowing that it will take a little edge off but not make a huge difference. I love my 308 bolt with the Trash Panda, it makes a real difference. I love 22s suppressed, that is truly Hollywood quiet and what I would recommend to anyone as a first suppressor. Suppressing 556 feels like a low value proposition and best left for later (or done as an experiment with some sort of hybrid can). If you really want a suppressed 556 as a home defense gun I'd go for a pistol build and run a dedicated can on it. Or consider a PCC 9mm with a pistol can on it... you don't have rifle power but you do get hearing safe.

    Good Luck and happy shopping

That's the thing, I'm not putting it on either rifle expecting hearing safe or AR optimized, just less loud so I don't have to double up on earpro to come away without a headache after a day on the range. I plan to pick up other suppressors down the line as well, but my main goal is that it be mountable to the AR, with general purpose use on multiple hosts in mind. I will absolutely pick up a dedicated 5.56 can for the thing down the road, combined with a shorter barrel for dedicated suppressed use, but for the interim I'm willing to deal with the issues a 30 cal can on an AR creates. In this case, the can bumps my OAL to around that of a 20-22" rifle, which I'd still rather have than any of my other options inside my house. The vast majority of the round count is going to be primarily Appleseed type range time and precision rifle use, with the others being tertiary. When I take an HD rifle/upper seriously and put a short combo together for such needs, it'll likely be a very short 300blk because a short barreled 5.56 is pretty worthless below 10.5.

I have, and love them. I'd prefer to run them solo over muffs and plugs, and provide everybody in the vicinity some level of hearing protection whenever I'm shooting. I can say 99% of my shooting can be boiled down to times where I'm there with other people and communication is ongoing, or in situations where I don't want to blow my ears out because I had to take a shot without ear pro.

I’ve never been a big fan of 20 round magazines (they don’t drop free like my Pmags do, plus I like moar capacity) but man it’s nice to have for this use.

We have a few but we jumped from 10’s straight to 30’s when we moved to a free state, the biggest issue I have with ours are they don’t drop free which is aggravating to me.
