So I am relocating to be closer to family, as we are expecting a son October 6th! Getting out of the rain has a lot to do with it as well. We currently live in Portland Oregon, and next weekend I will be taking the first trailer load of stuff down. This is just a 5x8 trailer that wont have alot of weight in it, I am guessing 1000-1500 lbs. Our final move with most of our furniture will take place at the end of this month with a larger 6x12 trailer loaded with about 2000-2500lbs. It is about an 18 hour drive in each direction, and I will make that drive three times this month. I am not super worried about the trailering as they are small trailers with not alot of weight, but I am going to spending alot of time in the drivers seat and am wondering if anyone has any advice for roadtrip essentials, comfort items, stuff like that! Thanks in advance.

Stop in Burley Idaho as a half way point. Drove from Portland to Philly and then back to Portland in February. Weather shouldn’t be a factor.

I drove from Georgetown CO to Burley ID in one stretch. The best western in burley had a nice bar and a Perkins to eat breakfast.

Small cooler, Snacks, sammiches etc drinks sodas and such. top off on gas when you can. Or half tank or dont go below 1/4 tank or lower. Could be a good stretch without gas. 8-10hrs driving is relatively safe anything over 12 is pushing it.

Yes never let your tank get below 1/2 tank. Keep some snacks in arms reach stop every 2-3 hours to stretch your legs. Bring good toilet paper with you truck stops and rest stops have terrible toilet paper.

I am thinking I will go farther than that on day one. Plan is to drive about 12 hours the first day and then 6ish the second. Wilcam I agree definitely not going below a quarter of a tank and starting to think about gas right around 1/2 tank. The yeti 35 will be making the drive with me as loaded as I can make it to avoid going in gas stations as much as possible.

Yes lol. I personally wouldnt drive 12 hours cause after stops and everything that drive turns into 14+ hours quick. I started going from Portland to Ogden Utah in one push at that wasn’t towing anything and that was tough. 8-10 was my sweet spot anything over that turned out to be tough sitting in a seat and relaxing afterwards

I have driven over 18 hours in one go on more than one occasion, 12 hours is about my sweet spot while solo driving I just dont sleep alot in general. When I have the wife with me for the full move end of the month I think it will be right around 8 hours where we stop. We drove from North Carolina about 3 years ago and did mostly 12 hour runs, I was wanting to keep going each night but she was more than ready to stop.

actually, my plan on the way home is to just wake up and leave my uncles around 6 am, maybe take a nap at a truck stop for an hour or two at some point along the way, and do the drive in basically one go. Just easier. I hope I wont have to nap at all but if I do an hour should do it. I have caffeine and nicotine gum, Im set.

We will be living in Denver, and are very excited about it! I wanted to move there originally when we moved here 3 years ago but she preferred living near the coast. I went to bachelor for 5 days and the skiing here just is not even comparable to Colorado. Icy/slushy crap vs powder.

Watch your Transmission temperature on the long uphills, best to keep it in 4th, or 2000rpm+ Did a move from BC to Colorado, towing the same as you described. I have a Scangauge, with Trans temp programmed in, and definitely stay out of 5th climbing any hills. Straight stretches no problems.
