The Toyotas dealers here in NorCal want over MSRP for their trucks. I went to a local dealer and a Sport double cab with a MSRP price of 37K and 5K markup. I offered the 37K price plus TTL. I was turned down. Another dealer has a 4Runner Pro MSRP at 50K with a dealer markup of 10K. I offered MSRP of 50K and TTL. Another turndown. I will not pay over MSRP.

The local Ford dealer I looked at a F150 4WD. Ford offered the truck at $500 over cost, without hassle, their first offer. I went to another Ford dealer same thing, $400 over cost, no hassle. Both dealers at MSRP were going to make about 3K on their trucks.

So trying to buy Toyota truck, as one dealer salesman put it, "is a highly desired gem!". Toyota can keep their gems

Sorry bud that’s not how it works see my above post. Pretty familar with the process ;) dealer will call it “special ordering” but you can’t piece together a Tacoma and they will allocate it from within the regional / current allocations or what is probably what your confused about put in a special allocation request if it’s not a usual build / config for that region. And yes the process takes an additional 4-6 weeks, longer if it’s a special allocation which requires approval.

Why not Toyota financing? Usually they try to get you to finance with them. That's extra money in the bank for them.

Usually aug-sept they arrive on dealer lots, so probably closer to nov-dec now and such was the case with 17s or 18s if I remember.

Not 100% sure. Multiple dealers I went to had the same approach. Maybe someone can chime in. Honestly the best thing to do is agree on a price. Don't give any indication of how you're paying. Get it in writing then you tell them how you want to pay.

Ideal situation i saw was to bring your own financing, ideally a financial institution they deal with anyways. They can make the call to match the rate, they then get a kick back and everyone is happy.

Makes sense to just search throughout the country for the best deal. Then use their connections to get a decent price on shipping it back to you. Or use the money to fly over (maybe not best with the virus thing) and enjoy the trip back wherever you buy it. Just make sure they can handle your taxes in your bundle offer or you'll be on the hook to pay full pop when you get back.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I think I have decided against getting a new taco. I'm just going to keep what I got and buy a new car...something fun....maybe a WRX. With equity in my truck dropping, it just doesn't make sense to get rid of it to get another new one. Aside from some electronic gadgetry and refreshed looks...I don't think I would really gain much with a 2020 anyways. The config I really want does not exist...where TF is the AC TRD OR Manual?

Oddly enough, I think they are in Canada. If I remember correctly, Canada gets the AC 6MT Off-Road and the US gets AC 6MT Sport. I don't know why they do that, since they can obviously build them either way, but it's how they divide them up.

My numbers, if anyone needs another data point. Brought home yesterday from a dealer on Cape Cod:

2020 Limited in Magnetic Grey Metallic
    MSRP $44,032
    Discount $4149
    Rebate: $1750

    out the door: $38,132

You either get the rebate *or* 0%/2% financing, not both, which was news to me. I financed half the cost, and got 4.9% @ 72 months (800+ FICO) through Toyota. Planning to pay off in 2 years, so rebate made more sense than 0%.

I was in touch with 10+ dealers along the East coast and trucks were disappearing quickly. Two separate times, after locating the truck I wanted, someone else snatched while I was still negotiating. Glad to get it and best of luck to anyone still looking.

Just drove my new 2020 SR5 back from the dealership. Officially bought my first Tacoma! Luckily, my dealership stuck to their original pricing and didn't try to play any games with my deal. I didn't haggle for this price, it's what was offered right off the bat as the internet price. The entire process felt "too good to be true."

    MSRP on my truck $36,777
    Sale Price before Rebate $33,505
    Price w/ $1750 Rebate: $31,755
    OTD w/ NJ 7% tax + fees: $34,584

They also gave me $1k over trade in value, which probably doesn't sound like a ton but when it's $3k on a truck that KBB said was worth $2k in a private sale, it means a bit more. I was never expecting to get $3k for my trade, so I'm happy considering it as an additional $1k discount on my sale price.

Hi everyone. First post. I was in the same boat as you Slicknick07 - looking for a OR Cement in So Cal. I started my search 2 weeks ago and there were about 25 (long beds - that's what I'm getting) in stock between Santa Barbara and San Diego. As of yesterday there were maybe 6 - and most of them heavily equipped, so $$$. The ones with good deals have sold. I had the same experience - dealers telling me they won't budge off MSRP and a few offering very minimal discounts. I found one truck that was a little over 11% off msrp but it sold before I could get it. Finally found a dealer (thankfully very close to me) who offered me just a little over 9% off MSRP and that's with the 0%. I consider myself lucky and took it. On my way over to pick it up now. Otherwise I would have had to wait until the end of summer (at least) for stock to replenish and I wouldn't have my new Tacoma for summer activities.

Can confirm. Not budging. Might go out of state. 33k for a sr5 2wd is insane and they arent budging.

    Congrats on your purchase!

I'm in socal I've been looking for a while.
Missed out on a couple deals, 11-13% off MSRP with Costco and rebate factored in.

I'm just going to wait for a truck that a dealer has coming in.

I'll probably end up waiting a while.

Do you think I paid to much? I'm at 14% off MSRP after rebates, which I was under the impression was a good deal.

Maybe people are getting ORs for similar to my OTD price, but that's because NJ has 7% tax

Looks good to me. Trd OffRoad 4x4's don't sticker for 36k unless maybe its a manual. They start off in the high 38's.

You might want to shop your loan, I got 2.6% for 72mo in early April, it’s now down to 2.29% for the same 72mo here in Texas.
