There are TONS of threads about this exhaust just FYI. To make it simple. It definitely is louder and you really won’t gain measurable power.

Normally people will say it sounds like shit because it’s a V6 and save your money. This is how these threads typically go. I think it sounds just fine but again don’t expect power gains.

If you have the money, you want the exhaust with a bit of a deeper tone and 15 mins to spare I say do it. Just search around for good prices just like search around for threads on here to see what others have said and done.

I have the TRD exhaust cat back on my 2017 and like it, also had it on my 1999 taco. The sound is good not too loud (sorry don't have a video) i installed it on both trucks myself not much to it and i am not mechanically incline.. just don't expect it to give you noticeable power gains. Neither on my 1999 or 2017 Taco i felt an increase of power, maybe, maybe a bit of increase in gas millage but this also depends on what your driving habits are... And yes they are expensive...

It sounds different, no way in hell is it worth 700 bucks. I put a borla muffler on mine and bought the TRD chrome tip, if I did it over again I'd just buy the chrome tip and leave the rest alone.

If it really doesn't sound much better or louder then I don't see a reason to buy one for the price that it's at. I don't want crazy loud but would be nice to have a big enough difference for it to sound good without drone.

I was also thinking about just buying the black chrome Toyota tip and just leaving as is.

Nothing but the TPAM mount and a KN cold air intake
I would go with the MBRP Tacoma XP Series Single Exhaust System. It is a turn down exhaust and my buddy's truck sounds amazing and it was done it 2 hours in the drive way following a youtube video.

I actually have been reading over those other threads before I posted this one. This one was mainly for the cost the dealer was quoting on the install but I'm also getting some good info. from it as well.

Put the rest of the money you're saving in the 2nd gen running boards so you can wash the windshield and roof without standing on top of a bucket.

LOL. I didn't think of that. I was looking at some side steps and don't need them to get in and out of the truck but I would need them to wash the top more easily probably lol.

I love the sound coupled with the TRD CAI it sounds way different than the stock exhaust. Can I feel a difference, yes it feels smoother, runs smoother and feels complete if that makes sense. I don't know what TRD tip people are talking about but adding a muffler is also good. My son added a nice flow master and it sounds great too, just not 50 years old great. The pro exhaust is a nice one piece aluminum exhaust that is deep sounding and no drone. To me it's the best sounding exhaust for these trucks.

I personally think the trd is the best sounding exhaust. If your wanting the exhaust for anything but sound, you are wasting your money. I bought the trd exhaust only because I got it used for just over 200 bucks. Anything more than that, again you're wasting your money.

Like everyone else is saying install is super simple. If you are semi decent in the garage, you can install this yourself. If you aren't ask a friend to help, the two of you will figure it out.

Except for exhaust, the fine print says it explicitly. I was excited when the sale started because there are a few places online that offer an acceptable price but I won't be going up north for a while. Ah well.

The TRD one-piece stainless steel exhaust was the first mod I did at 500 miles from new. I am very happy with it.

This system will outlast any steel part on the Tacoma, as quickly as these are rusting.

Is the exhaust louder/better sounding to you or not much different than stock sound?

I’m not worried about gain in power.

More so $700 $600 is alot of money for what you get. If it wasn't for the price I got mine for, I wouldve kept the stock exhaust. But I like the sound of the trd exhaust.

Oh ok cool. Another thing I was worried about is loss of low end torque. Anyone having that issue? I know when I had sports cars before a new exhaust would cause a low end torque loss but gains in the higher rpms. I’m mostly in the lower torque range so don’t want to give any of that up. I don’t remember anyone talking about this on other posts about this exhaust so thought I’d bring it up here.

There's a guy on here that just posted his lightly used Borla S cat back exhaust for only $450. Came off his DCSB with only 3,500 miles. Honestly the Borla is the best sounding exhaust on the market (I know subject to opinion) but if you want some great sound that comes with absolutely no cab drone then I recommend Borla. And it comes in three pieces for easy DIY install.
