Elon is supposedly very passionate about the Cybertruck and wants it in production ASAP. He’s super ticked off right now at Alameda County because the Fremont factory still isn’t allowed to open. He’s filing a lawsuit and is threatening to pull all manufacturing operation out of CA.

Nope, I certainly have and UV solar panels are mostly a joke. The amount of UV in sunlight is minuscule and most of the panels are extremely fragile. On a normal solar panel, glass is what protects the silicon and glass usually blocks just about all UV light. Let me know how much that NASA/Gov microwave solar panels cost you...like I said, solar is not a viable charging source on a vehicle (for a vehicle charge).

Correct, but my point was that it will be in the future.

Fair, but if we're talking future tech, it won't be the panels that get better or more efficient (they will, but that's not what will make it possible), it will be the storage (as mentioned earlier in the thread, battery tech) and the usage (i.e. do more with less energy used).

I sincerely hope this happens. There are many other states that would welcome Tesla and SpaceX with open arms...and much fewer restrictions.

Yup, I can't imagine why any mfg company (especially as big as Tesla) would remain in California.

I did want to comment about the wind turbine option. I can see where EV manufacturers can create a tunnel in the body, leading from the grille, to a turbine. This would allow high speed wind to drive electric generators for recharging the batteries.

Interesting, but wouldn't anything that is able to generate usable power also create unwanted resistance to enable that generation?

NOW FOR BRAKING...crack open that tunnel and listen to the whine of the turbo charging the cells!!!

Not if it's a flow-through design. I'm envisioning something along the lines of a hypercar, but hidden.

Yes, there would be some extra resistance, I don't know how much that would be though. It would depend on if they could generate more than the resistance is taking. The idea is if you could extend the range an extra, say, 50 miles...maybe more, that's pretty huge. It's not something that would allow you to go indefinitely but could very possibly add some extra range.

Why do people really think because it’s electric it’ll have wiring problems or if there’s a problem your screwed. Come on, newer cars keep getting more reliable. We’re not living in a carburetor, points, timing age anymore. Unless you have some classics and even some of my classics are more reliable. An EV has fewer moving parts hence less potential issues. My Dad is on his 2nd Tesla and he’s had zero issues. He was one of the first to get a Model S. My whole point of this post was to start a conversation and some responses have been great to read. I wasn’t asking “oh hey forum guys, since I don’t know anything about what to do with my life and what car to buy, can you please give me your all knowing advice.” I bought a Tacoma TRD Pro because it had everything I wanted. I don’t need a commuter. I’ve got another car that I can commute with that gets better gas mileage and is more fun to drive. I love the responses, “just get a commuter, problem solved.” Like really? I should just direct message you next time instead of posting since you have all the answers. Maybe some of you should get some sun....

Same could be said for a gas truck.
EV and hydrogen cars are the future. Standard gas may be around for many years, but EVs, hybrids and will keep chipping away at them.

I don't know about other EVs but I had a Tesla that I couldn't figure out how to shut the thing off with out Googling it.

I don't want anything to do with a vehicle that does not have straight forward controls and functionality.

There are conventional vehicles that I dislike how they operate Honda and Lincoln push button transmissions are two of them off the top of my head.

That just seems like more of a learning curve issue and the dealer should’ve gone over that with you. Usually you just put it in park and get out. If you want to sit in your car and turn it off I think you have to put it in charge port mode.

It wasn't my vehicle the owner was in a accident and this was after the crash. What ever I did it involved two buttons on the steering wheel.

I thought the same thing. Dealer should have went over that.

Tesla’s are sweet, and this Rivian is gonna be sweet.
