I recently pulled a heavy trailer that caused my truck to squat a lot while towing. A few days later I noticed that the bed to cab gap distance was 1/2 greater on the driver side than the passenger side (the trailer was evenly balanced) I’ve attached some pics.

Is this normal for the truck or did I cause this by heavy towing? What could have caused this? 82217AEB-93EC-4D01-BE53-51BCE99AC15E.jpgBCE1FDE8-82F7-463B-B7F6-987C00FD62B4.jpg

Take it to Toyota and ask them to align your bed. A few members have done this already. They should take care of you.

Long story short, you can fix it yourself (you’ll need help) or take it in and have it done by the dealer. This is a known issue and the dealer will hook you up.

Some trucks comes like this from the factory. The body and bed aren't perfectly aligned

It's a known issue, but luckily, it's easy to fix

Mine was the same. I adjusted it all on my own. After I got the bed aligned I then aligned my bumper to the bed. Probably take you 30min to an hour maybe. Easy peasy. Definitely not worth it to go to the dealer. Unless you like that sort of thing.

To promote high quality, the Japanese use the sub-concepts of total quality control (TQC), or zero defects, and quality at the source (jidoka). Jidoka places emphasis on correcting problems when and where they occur. Implementing these quality concepts obviously requires dedicated workers.

Jidoka is obviously not practiced in Tijuana or San Antonio.

    Work in progress...
6 big torx bolts in the bed. Loosen them, align the bed and tighten them back. You are gonna be really surprised how easy the bed moves. Just don't get all crazy and pull the fuel hose off or something. 1/2" is just a little nudge.

Mine is a bit off. Will I need a breaker bar to loosen? I was reading on other threads that it was going to be really tight. Mine is off about 1/4" Thanks! I know, OCD kicked in a bit.

Now you guys have got me looking. I noticed a difference in the clearance between the rear bumper and bed on the sides. Hmm! The dealer said there was nothing they could do about it. But now I wonder if the bed is out of alignment and the bumper is in alignment. Gonna have to check. Thanks for the info.

It wouldn’t pull loose it’s flexible . Best bet is to just loosen the bolts without fully removing the bolts . That way the bed can’t bump the cab or bumper ( no paint to paint contact) .

The dealer is full of it. The bumper is made of very flimsy sections that could be loosened and adjusted . Measure the gaps from cab to bed and that will tell you if it’s in the bed adjustment or in the bumper.

Aesthetic preference isn’t covered under warranty and nobody is going to pay book time flat rate to remove a bumper over 1/4” difference.

No surprise the dealer said they wouldn’t do be able to do anything. They can’t, for free. And if they said “okay, $450” then they’d get slammed for it.

Minor aesthetic details are easily handled by the person that’s bothered them. Nobody else notices, and if they do, most don’t care.

I work at a dealership body shop and adjust body panels under warranty all the time . Cosmetic is covered in the first year . Obviously not body damage . Another good thing to inspect on delivery though to get it in writing on a We owe ticket from the dealer at time of sale though .

    We get paid for it.

You guys just made me go look, all is fine on mine thankfully although I did adjust the bumper myself several months ago as it was way out.
