Its a cyclone for industrial dust collection. They're used in a lot of industries, but most of the ones we make are used in saw mills.

Surprisingly thats what I thought it was. Always interesting how different areas (and industries) do things.

My buddy at powdercoat had us make this prototype out of wood a couple years ago as a test. He wanted to see if it worked then he was going to have us make two. They’ve added to it and fixed and repaired. He brought it to me today at lunch and ask for 2 by Monday afternoon. Check. He said they’ve ran approximately 3 million parts through this one. They put 5 parts in it and wrap them. I need about an hour in the lathe and I’ll be done with them.

So when welding to the stock axles.. pre-heating with a torch for a few minutes should be enough, no? Also, are the axle housings 3/16" or 1/4" thick?

I’ve never pre heated anything and have welded shock mounts, limit tabs, and a diff diaper on it. It’s not very thick, so probably 3/16. That’s for a tacoma though.

Still working on the mini bike in between jobs. Got the frame and forks welded up today. I still have a few details to tidy up before paint but for now I’m gonna assemble everything, build handle bars, foot pegs, weld the seat on, and ride it around.

If you’re referring to the axle tubes. No need to preheat. Personally I’d avoid it. It would be a very easy way to warp a housing. If you’re referring to something like trussing a Jeep axle heat may be required at the pumpkin.

Got it. Thanks, guys. I'm going to be welding on new lower shock mounts, some limit strap mounts, a bump stop strike pad, and maybe a simple crossover truss. What I have now..

One thing I learned the hard way is that, depending on your rear set up, the two limit strap mounts can contact each other at full stuff. I had to tweak mine. They’re not directly in line with each other now.

    Check Build thread
run an adjustable clevis on one side of the limit strap mounting point... new straps stretch

if you’re welding on new lower shock mounts try to make the leafs limit downtravel.. then no need for a strap

Yeah I had to put that phucker on ignore. Last thing I need is someone that can't form a proper sentence, telling me how to weld.

Anywho, I know some people in here are running cheap plasma cutters. I’m wondering what decent ones there are for <$500 if possible. Really don’t need more then 1/4” clean cut since I never work with anything thicker.

The Jegs built one has good reviews, as long as your not cutting railroad ties......<$300 I think

That's why us antique knuckle draggers are still welding. Get your education so you can be our boss .
You will also lose your welding skills once you go into management. You have to use it or you will lose it.

If you don't want to allow us to comment, then feel free to put us on ignore.

Most of us have some long hours to put in before we have time to comment. If it isn't as eloquent as you would like, you are welcome to pay for your welding classes.

    Sorry, the post annoyed me.
