@ARCHIVE I am about to install my rear suspension with Dakar HD leaf packs and Bilstein 5160's. I have been reading through a lot of this thread and think I am going to make the purchase and get it done right the first time. If I add these hangers, will the 5160's be compatible? Thinking about also adding the 3.6" shackles as well but is there a reason you recommend sticking with stock shackles when going with the Dakars?

    Many thanks!

Hey, I think 5160s will be the limiting factor in droop, but will be an acceptable combo.

Because of the design of Dakars with the rear leaves extending inside the shackle cavity, these springs rub the shackle and the stock shackle has the most clearance for leaves in Dakar design.

If you haven't seen reviews in post#1, the Hh make a nice improvement in ride quality

Careful fully extending 5160s while off road. Put mine through paces, and one is toast 25k later.

    Whole lotta stuff
The old 5160s are a great shock on stock trucks/leafs. For aftermarket leaf springs and/or shackles and hangers, you will be better off measuring and getting either the 5100 B110 from RCD, or getting an equivalent 5165 variant. After that, you can get into 2.5s from king/fox/ads/icon but you're on the pricier side.

Edit: as far as the dakar pack goes, I ran it with 5160s for awhile and it was really good. If you have the new part# from bilstein for the 5160s, they changed them to offer a little bit more droop, which puts them at more travel than the regular 5100 Tacoma shock.

If I keep the stock shackles do the hammer hangers still provide more durability off road and get rid of the spring chatter/vibrations when driving/towing? Thanks for all the help I appreciate it

IDK about with the Dakars but with Deavers the B110's are the limitting factor in droop. These pics are with the truck hanging off a lift, shocks are maxed out, and shackles are only about half rotated. It's fine for what I do but for somebody wanting more flex I would think a relocate with longer shocks would be prefferable

Yes with Eric's polly bushings. For Lord's sake ask @EatSleepTacos or somebody for the part number for the shackles without bushings. IDK you could get them that way until right before I was doing the install. Getting the stock bushings out of the stock shackles was time consuming

Yes, the Hh are where durability comes from, and main benefit for ride quality, stock hangers are the weak link, stock shackles are fine IMO

Found them! Thanks for the heads up. I am going this route for sure.oen shackles.jpg

Do you lube the shackle bushings with any grease before install?

You should or they can squeak. Be sure you're using a grease that's fit for polyurethane. Stuff like wheel bearing grease can eat away at poly.

Yes. Put the bushings into the shackle with no grease. Then you grease the outside of the metal sleeve and push it in. A little grease on the outside face too. For poly bushings the bushing itself should stay in place, and the metal sleeve is what rotates. That’s why you only want to grease that.

With 5160s, I think you can run stock shackles with stock rubber bushings

    Holy Hammer Hangers!!!!!

How do I describe the difference besides with the likes of Night and Day, or how about,I didn't even think I was driving the same vehicle. I still have the stock suspension and leafs, but you wouldn't know it now (besides the bro lean).

I drove 76 miles home, ~55 of which were on interstate roads...within these highway miles I travel more than half of them daily for work and visiting family, and every bump, overpass and the 12 miles of construction I travel daily was entirely different.
I normally hit big whoop bumps when entering the construction zones going and coming from work...today going home...not only did the truck not (audibly at least) hit bump stops, and the drive feel is so much more solid, not stuff, but definitely more solid and feels like there isn't a truck bed behind the cab.
I also hit several of the rutty concrete sections of the back roads we travel once off the interstate...and they regularly jarred me pretty good, but again tonight driving over them, it was like barely an impact, and amazingly the bed wasn't jittering or jarring like I had grown accustom to over the last year plus.

I am kicking myself for not jumping on this awesome and superior upgrade to the Tacoma.

Don't question or delay anymore, get a pair of Hammer Hangers!
20200507_185749.jpg sticker picture beat product pictures:D:rofl:!
P.S. Thanks again to @EatSleepTacos for the install and cross tube fab!

Thanks for posting your results, it is a little surprising and hard to believe until you experience it.

The more I see these in person the more I want them. Last 3 trucks I’ve worked on have had them.
