No believe it or not that one was normal but the transmission blew up after him driving for only 1 mile total! It also had a warped head and blown head gasket so unfortunately the only time he drove it was for that 1 mile.

So previous owner didn't take care of it? The Colorados and Canyons are actually pretty good trucks if you take care of them!

 

Yeah I think it's Usedcarparts.com and it shows all the stuff available at Junkyards, pretty useful.

 

You should have put a 5.3L V8 in the Canyon!

 

Its hard telling, he has a hard time waiting and just buys the first thing that pops up.

 

He ended up selling it to someone that wanted it for parts.

 

I'm guilty of that; I would have ended up with a 2009 Ford Ranger XLT instead of a 2010 Taco if my dad wasn't with me...

 

I have tried till I was blue in the face to get him to not buy these vehicles because I unfortunately see disaster written all over them.

 

He needs to buy a salvage Tacoma...

 

I dont want him to buy anything Salvage, but a Tacoma would probably be the best choice but even that depends how bad it was torn up.

 

I am still not sold on the Dakota having a bad transmission because all the wiring and ECU are messed up. I want him to take it somewhere to have it diagnosed before he runs out and buys a transmission.

 

He would have been better off with your 2000 that should have been totaled than that Dakota! At least that thing would run better, and I don't think he "tear it up" any worse than it already was in that accident!

 

Yeah no kidding, even after all that it was still a good truck. I got $17,100 on trade in for that truck when i got the 2008.

 

But the new owner actually totaled it, right? Was it paid off when you traded it?

 

The insurance company repaired it and i drove if for 6 more years before trading it in. The 2008 stickered for around $28,600 and i got it for $25,500 minus the $17,100 for the old one so i felt great getting a new truck for $8400!

 

So it was paid for?

My aunt's ex-husband had a 2001 Ford F150 XL regular cab shortbed 2WD with the 4.6L V8 and automatic transmission; He bought the truck brand new, and I remember being utterly flabbergasted that he was still making payments on it in 2007! He once let me drive that truck around the block when I was like 17, without a driver's license or even a learner's permit!

 

Yeah it was long paid for, probably around 2003-2004 timeframe. I wouldnt want to carry payments for a long time, usually take out the loan for 60 months and then pay extra so its early.

 

My dad paid $14,900 for my 2010 Tacoma in September 2009; He got $2,300 for the 1996 Nissan Pathfinder he traded (they initially low-balled him at $1,500-$1,600), put like $2,000 down, financed the remainder at 0.9% APR, and paid the truck off early in like 2012 or 2013!
