Thanks, and I think your vet may be right. A check of the internet suggests that they really don’t know if the vaccine is effective. The most important thing I’ve read is the need to get a bitten dog to the vet ASAP. The anti-venom medication is only effective in the first 4 hours

    Cody is a water chomper.
    One of his favorite games.

    How is scout today???
This is very near and dear to me.
My vet always pushes the rattlesnake vaccine and I always decline.
No reason really, just run big dogs and never more than 3 hours out, 2 by tacoma.

Hope she makes a fast and full recovery!

Thanks for asking. Her foot and leg are still very swollen. Her
appetite is good. Seems like nothing slows her eating down. I’m sure she’s going to make it but it will take time

Thanks again for asking. Her leg will be swollen for a couple more weeks they say. We’re giving her pain medication and she seems to be fine with that. I can’t say whether or not the rattlesnake vaccine helped. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info out there about it’s effectiveness. I have a new hunting pup coming in September. Will I give it to her? Probably yes...better than nothing, along with rattlesnake avoidance training. We have a lot of rattlesnakes in my area and I’ve known other dog owners who have had their dogs bit. Some live, some die. Seems to be more about where they are bitten, how much venom they got in them and how soon anti-venom was administered. For the future, I will be keeping a list of vets who regularly carry anti-venom and their phone numbers and addresses and hours of operation. Not all vets carry anti-venom so it would be helpful to know where to go in an emergency. Lastly, this is a costly vet visit. The anti-venom was $550 a dose and she needed two doses, and then the office visit, meds, etc. Really put a dent in our emergency cash fund. I told my wife it may have been better that I got bit because I have insurance.

I used to watch these old westerns with my pop so saturday at the westerns is kind of a ritual.

    Mal does not understand.

Why you no stay outside with us this morning?
    Screenshot_20200509-074455_Gallery.jpg

And these "saturday at the westerns" are more important than exploring?
