This is the kind of S#*t that drives me crazy, This customer had his 17 Tacoma at the dealer for whatever reason and they told him he needs front pads and rear shoes (less that 3mm) so instead of them doing the work he brought it in for me to do (assuming we were going to do the brakes) and lo and behold he doesn't need rears (surprise surprise) and yes the fronts are at 4mm but not less than 3mm. so it's no wonder why most people don't like to take their vehicle in for service, I'm not pointing fingers at just the dealer but anyone who works on cars for a living, just be honest, it will show integrity that the customer will see and will always return to that shop. Keep it real fellow gearheads!TACOMA 003.jpg

Dealers are always super conservative and looking to make a quick buck from those who don't know anything about vehicles.

The Service writers I know are told to push different parts and services when told.

When the boss says do this you for the most do or find another job

Reminds me years ago you need steering Rack bushings ordered the bushings really looked at things washed everything off.

Your good to go now still the same bushings years later.

I don’t think it’s an assumption. I’ve never been impressed by rates or quality of work at any dealership. I’d much prefer to just do the work myself but unfortunately with the age of technology there are certain times I’ve had to bite the bullet because I don’t want to pay for their proprietary super computers to diagnose and reset certain issues.

folks who charge extra for greasing the calipers during a brake job are crooks, and I wouldn’t trust em farther than I could throw em.

That's the stuff that bothers me, Yes some techs are crooks but a small percentage are, and that seems to translate to all techs. You can take someone from every industry and find a crook but just remember there's a lot of us that are not.

Most guys i know who would recommend work like this are new techs out of school that either didn't get a good look from the inspection hole and thought it was a lot lower then it was or just didn't know that new shoes come like this. Either way any experienced tech pulls off that drum should put it right back, or pull the new tech and show him what he wrote up which is what i do.

I encourage people to do their own work if possible, there's no way we techs can do it all! and for the jobs you can't do we are here to help, That's why I'm on TW to help Tacoma owners when I can, it's not about how much you make.
