What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

When I did that, I had to completely redo the swing out, because the length increased, I also had to change the side of the swing out, I put the tire mount on, because I want the tire on the side closest to the hinge.

 

What are the options for dorkels? Just Arb? I’m not seeing much else. Had a buddy hydro lock his motor this weekend, it’s got me spooked!

 

The ARB knockoff on eBay. Bunch of us are running it, I got it back when it was $99 and it's been great for over a year now. I think it's closer to $150 now.

@Dan8906 I've been running mine about a year. No problems.

But don't just slap the dorkle on and think you're good to go. Make sure the dorkle, air box, and everything else is sealed up well (for purposes of avoiding hydrolock) That should make you relatively good for above average water crossings.

If you're going to get really deep or make longer water crossings, you're still looking at possibly relocating Trans and tcase breathers and dielectric greasing all your harness plugs etc.

 

Appreciate the additional info. I’ll definitely make sure it’s sealed. I don’t honestly do huge crossings. Just wanna be cautious, and also for all the dust we have here in CA

 

Got my gear tech fender splash shields on, they fit pretty well and they are probably 5 times thicker than the stock shields.
Down side is these take at least a month to receive after your order, I think the seller waits for a batch before getting them made and are not in stock.
Otherwise great product.

Got them for my birthday, really like them too.

 

Since I’m probably one of the only losers in this forum who didn’t assemble their truck out of a box and don’t know how to weld, I ended up using rivets for tubing my firewall. It’s super solid and of course I’m gonna seal the heck out of it!

 

Finally got around to putting in new LBJs, inner and outer tie rods, new CV axle shaft, steering rack and sway bar bushings.

Those steering rack bushings had me cursing a bit.

 

Speaking of dorkels. Dont think you are water proof just because you slap a whale dick on your truck. Great for dust. But even then, i wonder the function of them ugly looking things

What size tire are you planning on running? It might just be the angle of the photo, but that doesn't look as tubbed as most people need to run 35's at full stuff. Did you fit check with the coilovers out and all that?

 

Got the fuel pump all mounted up pretty and wired, then no start. Checked all my grounds, reconnected everything smog related... No start.

Was going crazy last night trying to sort out my life. Drained the battery trying to get it going. I went to bed angry.

Woke up this morning, pulled the high and low pressure lines, rachet strapped my gas tank between links, and hooked everything back up. Pulled the Optima red top out of the Tundra...Fired right up.

Ordered a pressure regulator with gauge and Walbro 190. Arrives tomorrow. Took the Carter out. It pushes 80lph at 45psi. My only guess is it needs a baseline flow rate for the ECU to say, "start now"

Then I took a picture of my truck because I didn't take a single photo of my pain and suffering.

 

My stock air box had some small drain holes in the bottom of it. Never noticed them until I removed it.

 

New drums n shoes on the rear this weekend. Had to cut off the old drums, they were so rusted on.

I used duralast everything- got a fair deal at autozone. I had major issues fitting the drums. Had to tighten the adjusters all the way and even now they're too tight. I'm pretty sure they're out of round as well. Anyone had a similar experience? Any opinions on a fix? I figure either get them machined which may not be quick right now, or complain and hopefully get some new (round) drums. Drove a ~40 mile round trip to visit mom today and had some real wobble once the brake pedal was pressed more than a little. It did help me realize how little I brake anyhow- driving stick is good on brakes. At 163k these were original shoes and drums as far as I know and they were a little more than half worn. Pics to come of the carnage!

 

cheap drums are almost always out of round. cutting them fixes it for a short while. but ive cut the drums on my corolla 3 times. it comes back. The way they weld on the drum balance weights is the problem.

as for poor fitment, Duralaast shoes have always fit horribly for me. These days i only buy toyota shoes and drums. but Napa was the aftermarket i had ok luck with.
