It’s on an old Lincoln AC box, I’m not sure if my dad put it on it or if it came that way, he thinks it’s fine and I hate it.

Yep, the head rotates which is the tightening mechanism that clamps the electrode, for the most part it works OK and doesn’t feel that loose but I don’t like having to bend the rods and having the axis of the rod so far from my wrist makes the articulation feel off.

 

I like the basic clamp stinger. It’s good or it’s not. End of story, but it’s been so long since I’ve struck an arc I kind of forgot.. Except trying to get angle tacked together so the crane can drop the beam, in the rain, while on the beam... It’s a pain my sack will never let me forget.....

 

I shared most of the progress in this thread but never posted the final product. Had it on a shakedown run and it held up great.

Dummy was doing a wheelie at 40 mph and looped it. Amazingly he only had a teeny spot of road rash and that was it. The bike was in great shape too all things considered.

 

That's pretty slick. I know we joked about it in the other thread, but some aluminum or SS sheet metal riveted on the bottom would give it a real clean look, and also protect the cans/CV from getting rocks flung up at it.

 

I've thrown mine down a track countless times.
Pretty bomb proof all things considered.

Still don't see the point, your CV is getting rocks flung at it all the time and the Jerry's are steel. Doesn't bother me and I kinda like seeing the jerry's. I am happy with it though, thanks man.

 

That was the point, to keep it from getting a bunch of chips and rusting out. Plus the end of the CVs are usually protected in the diff/spindle

Sorry man, just trying to provide some useful input. A lot of times I'll miss something obvious so I try and bring discussions into my build thread to get other perspectives on it. Saved me a few times. You're obviously strongly opposed to it for some reason, so you do you boo boo.

 

Understood but it all seems a bit pointless. Metals going to rub on metal and risk rust just as much as potential rock chips. Shit my jerry is already slightly surface rusting from sitting fully protected in my bed in my last carrier. And what about the sides? Aren't those being subject to way more rocks than straight underneath where a tire can't really fling anything up at? Why am I going to source and mount expensive material for marginal usefulness other than "looks"? It's overcomplicating something that super simple is all.

 

I disagree on those points, but hey, we build things how we want right? That's the beauty of this hobby. Do whatever we want for whatever reasons we want.

 

ive been using a

$240 Lotos LTP5000D Plasma Cutter, 2024 Upgraded 5/8" 16mm Clean Cut 3/4" 20mm Severance Cut 50A Non-Touch Pilot Arc Plasma Metal Cutter Machine, Plasma Cutting Equipment, Dual Voltage 120V or 240V, Brown

Lotos LTP5000D plasma for a few years now. Has worked fine. Looks like they updated it to be a bit fancier than when I bought it though. But consumable are cheap and actually tend to last a decent length of time. Its not hypertherm but still has gotten the job done just fine. Cut a fair amount of 3/16 with it.

Just another option though its a bit more expensive than other chinese ones. But goes on sale from time to time too (on Amazon)

That the first time Ive heard a welder referred to as a knuckle dragger. Knuckle Draggers for us always referred to Riggers.

yeah they seemed to be on the first Chinese offerings for cheap. Them and the Cut50. The newer models seem to be a nice upgrade though. Mine has the air pressure gauge and regulator as an external unit vs now it looks built in (its the all red if you do look for reviews...brown is the updated version). And you get a LCD!


The manual for it was pretty funny too. O you want to cut 1/8" material...ok 35psi and 50amps! 1/16? 50amps! Everything was just full bore lol

Powdercoater paints landscape spikes, when they come off the line they put 5 in each one and wrap them for shipping. They ran 3 million through the wooden one.
