What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Yellow fogs are great for picking up paint lines in Ohio during the snow and rain. The color shift between the two fields of view really makes things pop.

I'm not certain I would ever advocate using amber for a fog.

 

In regards to inclement weather, I went with the yellow fog lights:

My understanding is that it is important for fog lights to be one color (rather than white, which is all colors) because the different wavelengths(colors) of visible light scatter off the fog droplets differently. This phenomenon is known as "dispersion," because the different colors of light in an image will separate from each other,causing the image to "disperse." If you illuminate the road with only one wavelength (color) of light, the images of the objects you see will still become somewhat blurry because of the scattering of light by the fog, but at least you won't have extra problems from dispersion.
So, if we want to use just one wavelength of light, which wavelength should we use? It turns out that light with short wavelengths scatters more than light with long wavelengths (short to long: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red). So, a long wavelength light will be best. There's another thing to consider, too: our eyes are not equally sensitive to all colors. It turns out that we are most sensitive to yellow and green light. So, our best compromise between sensitivity for our eyes and a long wavelength for least scattering is yellow light.
In regards to a clear night, I would go with white for clarity. Having the option to switch between yellow and white is awesome!

 

Funnily enough, I was going to post about the hacking of your own biological processes for visual acuity is the real reason why yellow is preferred, but I got a work email and just decided to cut it short. But that's one of the best explanations of it. Kudos.

 

For those wanting white and amber lights during foggy conditions, aren't the (high &) low beam headlights white?

Yes, but it won't last, there will be pretreatment requirements for it or the rust will continue to spread underneath it and eventually big patches of the epoxy will start falling off.

 

New to me 2015 Tacoma, first thing I did was take off the stock mudflaps.

Don't know if that's Van WA or Van BC but I've gotten pulled over for the lack of mud flaps in WA. I put my rears back on and chopped them off right above the 4x4 logo. They haven't been ripped off and I haven't been pulled over again

 

Finally installed my buckle tie down for my bakflip cover , no more closing lid on fishing rods

 

Was able to fit my front rail with my bakflip extra tie downs

 

It's the same in B.C., only it isn't so much the police but CVSE that will nail you.

 

Pladtidipped my emblems in gunmetal to match my new wheels. I love the ones on the doors and tailgate, but the one on the front grille looks out of place... Thoughts?

Had my '08 for 8 years without mudflaps and without issues. Maybe I'm lucky, or they just think my truck looks too good without flaps that the real crime would be to pull me over.

Still have the flaps in case of issues, but here's hoping I'll be fine.

I didn't feel that grey dip matched Silver Sky Metallic very well. I did my door badges with it a while ago and didn't like it. Ended up taking those off and doing my grille badge black. They also have a product called Hyperdip that's supposed to be even better.

 

I hit my Tonneau Cover with 303 everytime I wash the truck. It is a fantastic product that I have used for 20 years on Marine and Vehicle applications. It's not specifically meant to bring stuff back from being faded, but to keep stuff from fading and cracking in the first place. I would wash your soft topper with Dawn dish soap and give it a good coat of 303 Aerospace. Then re apply every couple of months after washing it with regular car soap. You shouldn't strip it down everytime, which is what the dawn will do.

 

I like it on the door emblems. I wanted it to match my wheels. Looks odd on the front grille against the black. I guess it's time to get the Pro grille! LoL
