Dissable traction control.

I have a 2010 TRD OR 4wd manual. I am so glad I bought a manual. It is an absolute blast to drive. The only issue is the damn trac keeps me from playing too hard. This really bursts my bubble. Aside of the "trac off" button which only dissables it a small percentage, does anyone know of a way to dissable it?

To the OP, while I would agree that the VSC buzzer is annoying, it does work to keep you driving straight and forward. When you turn TRAC and VSC both off, then you are in good old, open differential 4WD...

What I found fun was being able to go places in 4WD without deflating tires because of the limited slip TRAC system in H4. Have fun experimenting with all the drive modes!

 

Soon you will appreciate all the choice Toyota has given us with the OFF ROAD 4WD TRDs... You can choose from old style open differential to full four wheel drive front and rear locker-like traction (with A-TRAC)!

1) 2WD: VSC and TRAC active, engine regulated ('Limited Slip Lite').
2) 2WD: 'AUTO LSD' ('TRAC OFF MODE'). No engine regulation for 'strong' limited slip.
3) 2WD: 'VSC OFF MODE' (TRAC is off for 'open differential').
4) 4WD-Hi: VSC and TRAC active. No engine regulation for 'strong' limited slip.
5) 4WD-Hi: 'VSC OFF MODE' (TRAC is off for 'open differentials').
6) 4WD-Lo: VSC and TRAC are both off in L4 ('open differentials').
7) 4WD-Lo: 'A-TRAC' on gives a 'locker-like, super strong' limited slip, front and rear.
8) 4WD-Lo: Rear Differential Locked and open front differential (A-TRAC off).
9) 4WD-Lo: RR DIFF LOCK + A-TRAC on, 3 MPH limit.

 

No disrespect intended Christian, I am a 'detail-aholic' on some things, sorry!

 

All those options for the VSC and Trac are great, but if you are in VSC OFF mode and "lose traction" (i.e. drifting in an empty parking lot or something) it just kicks right back on. So that shit is never really off. Ever. I find it really irritating. Is there any way to just shut it off totally?

Yes, VSC and TRAC can be shut off, read page 193 of your owner's manual: "If the TRAC and VSC systems are turned off, the systems will not turn on even when vehicle speed increases."

I think you are mixing up AUTO LSD with VSC... and you definetly are in regards to TRAC and VSC, above.

VSC controls stability/ steering control when you go into a skid... it works awesome on a pickup with an empty bed.

TRAC provides a limited slip when accelerating from a stop or accelerating while driving (page 191 owner's manual).

 

Again, no idea what you have when you don't tell us or it isn't in your truck data under your name... ???

If 4WD: In Low Range ABS is off.
If 2WD Off Road TRD: With the rear differential locked ABS is off.

If a Sport or SR5/ Base model... sorry! Maybe a fuse can be removed... Have you tried taking out the ABS fuse...? I read that was done many times...

 

Sure, it is great to have control over the stuff in our truck...

I did a search for : ABS Fuse and found lots of stuff... one of the easiest was this:

"there's a small connector on the left side of your battery, towards the bottom. uplugging it will disable your abs. you may have to disconnect your battery once you plug it back in to get rid of the dash light...been so long since i've done it that i can't remember if it resets itself. not as convienient as a dash switch, but gets the job done."
