You think he's just practicing social distancing or just making :sandwich: Jaime?

By the way.........How are you and how is your family my Tejas friend?
Debbie and I are very well. We have 36 rolls of toilet paper, latex gloves, and scarves to use as face masks. We're only going out when it's absolutely necessary though. I hope you are well. I hope your familia es bueno!

Yea, this was 2 weeks ago. In VA, the season is closed. It SHOULD be trophy season (one fish per person per day 36in+), but the state closed it last year and again this year. Rec season starts soon and we get one between 28-36. I actually need to read up on the rule again when the season opens. Meanwhile, you go to the fish dock and the commercial guys have 40in rockfish sitting in the beds of their truck literally overflowing.

That fish was about 37-38in. Had a buddy land a 43. Mike caught a 15-20lb drum the same weekend.

That sounds a little intense to have the lone fisherman pay all that money for a license and then implement so many rules and restrictions. Then the commercial fucks haul in so many and by the time it gets to me at the store the mongers want over $14 a lb. We love rock and Debbie really likes it more than most fish (by the way, we don't touch tilapia) and I would cook it so much more often but damn! I have seen it at Wegmans for over $20 a pound. I'd rather spend the extra money and just buy crabmeat.

At least you guys are having fun and getting out of the house. When I was younger we use to go to great lengths to fish anywhere we could. A lot of freshwater fishing and some of the spots were seriously bizarre.

Yup! It's crazy, im all for supporting commercial guys making a living, but if the fishery is low ALL OF US should be barred from keeping them. I shouldnt have to pay for fish, when I'm catching the same fish myself. In the grand scheme of things, $17/yr is pretty cheap for a VA SW license.

it’s grass carp. Fisheries usually stock lakes with these To control algae and invasive weeds They are like cows feeding on grass. Lol.
This is my first time catching one. I had to land it because it had my $15 lure in it’s damn mouth. Lol.

I suppose you're right. I'm sure their license costs a lot more. They have a lot more expense too. But damn, if they have truck loads make it more reasonable for the consumer. I'll buy cod, halibut, monkfish or grouper before I pay the rock prices. We buy shark and ahi too.

Just as long as the case doesn't smell like fish at the store. A lot of them do though. They just don't keep them clean or cold enough. When I was a kid we would go to the market and they would have to uncover them they had so much ice. Now they think just because they are in a refrigerated case they don't need ice. Eyes all milky, scales flaking off, juices in the pan. Shit looks like bait. Hell, I've seen bait that looked better.

How does it taste? Is it like the difference between regular beef and grass fed beef? :D

    :hungry: I'd eat it!

How long did it take to land? Do you anchor or do you let something that size just pull you around for a while until it gets tired?

Yea, I grew up going in and out of old fish markets (all closed now). All open air, but all the fish was buried in packed ice. One piece may be on display at the top, but everything else was packed down.

I don't buy seafood alot, mostly just shrimp. My dad crabs, and we pick up oysters and clams when we want them. Not a bad gig down here lol

    I let her go.
I actually moved my kayak directly over her because she wouldn’t budge. Then I had to finesse her up because it was on light 17 lb line. I’m guessing it took about 45 minutes to bring her up onto the yak. Took several tries to net her because she kept coming broadside to the net that was NOT designed for a four foot fish.
