I've used both, I started putting FF on as DYI when I first got my truck but now I take it to Rust Check. The cost for Rust Check to perform the task was worth it to me because I don't have the mess to clean up nor do I have to crawl around under my truck trying to hit everything.

Fluid film goes on the undercarriage, not the exterior paint. Do they want to paint the undercarriage?

No they are worried about it getting into the air and creating fish eyes in the paint as well as getting into their filters when in the paint room. I talked with others who say that it won't be an issue after removing most of it. So I am going to do that and take it to a different shop. Just something for people to consider when picking what to use to protect against rust.

Very happy with fluid film. Coated my new frame with it, bought the gun and did several more cars. Easy to refresh it every year or two.

I'll toss in a vote for Krown. I've been using it regularly for years and have had good luck with it. My '05 Tundra still has almost zero rust living in salty Southern Ontario. None on the body. It's a little thinner and drips a bit but it seeps into the crevices and seams. I have the underside done every year which is a little cheaper, and the body every few years. Just another option.

    Cheers.

I know this is many, many years late, but what they are saying would be true of silicone, where even the smallest bit could ruin the entire shop https://www.nationalcollisionrepair...s-the-issues-with-silicone-in-the-paint-shop/

I don't know that Fluid Film contains any silicone, so they may be mistaken.

Use woolwax same as fluid film but doesn’t wash off nearly as easily (extensively used both)

I bought chain lube for my snowblower and used it last fall on the spare-tire up/down winch gizmo and chain parts. While I had the spare tire down and off I sprayed the inside and outside of the wheel with Fluid Film. I might use the chain lube on the trailer hitch and the inside of the rear bumper. Those two items just laugh in your face when it comes to collecting rust. I swear you could use an entire can in the fall on the hitch and it would still have flaking paint on it the next spring. I think I'll try the chain-lube in the spring on the laminated sections of the frame. I have the Toyota CRC treatment on the truck, but they kind of mailed it in on the application in some spots.

got some fluid film and got some overspray on my exhaust. got home from work tonight and thought my truck was on fire it smelled like burning paper/cardboard. Guess it's just the fluid film burning off but I definitely panicked for a second.

I had a piece of cardboard get lodged on top of my exhaust last year and it caught on fire and caused over 1k in damage so I'm a bit paranoid. Got a fire extinguisher ready but it's hard to tell your exhaust system is on fire until you see flames in the rear view mirror.
