Man I'm so jealous of your trip. I need to hit the open road every now and then because its good for the (my) soul. When you finally decide on your itinerary let us know. I know some really good spots to eat along the way that are cheap.

When in Sierra Vista you need to go get some "Gold N' Tangy" wings at Vinny's. I will pay you good money if you can some how extort them for that wing sauce recipe. I have been trying since 2014 to copy it with zero luck.

Another good riding option for you is Mt. Lemmon. A true mountain oasis when everything else is blazing hot. That trail is best done with a friend with one vehicle at the top and one at the bottom. The Catalina Hwy heading up the mountain is a roadies paradise.

Vinny's!! I've only ever had their pizza, so I'll have to head back there for wings and try to hit them with jedi mind tricks. Then again, this being Huachuca, I'm sure they've seen all the mind tricks a few times...lol

I've been going to Huachuca almost every year since 2005 for one reason or another, but this will be the first time I'm in AZ with my own bikes. Mt. Lemmon is one of my first planned outings while I'm there -- it's always beautiful up there, so I'm super stoked to see it again from a saddle.

    Thanks for the intel!

    Edit: tentative itinerary follows.

    Day - Activity
    1 - Departure from home / Drive
2 - Knoxville, TN: Urban Wilderness Advanced Loop CW
    3 - Drive
4 - Bentonville, AR: The Slaughter Pen - Blowing Springs Tour
    5 - Drive
6 - Salida, CO: Monarch Crest IMBA EPIC (concerned about my legs and lungs for this one.. may swap it with something else. Considering "Tour de Engineer" near Durango)
    7 - Drive
8 - Sedona, AZ: West Sedona Tour
    9 - Drive / Arrive at Destination

Albuquerque has some really good places to eat and some trails right on the edge of town too. Might as well hit a trail in NM to add another state to the bag if you got time.

Can you tell that I am procrastinating finishing my research proposal and would rather be planning a mountain bike trip? :anonymous:

I’ll be honest, it’s actually a good looking truck. There are a lot of good deals on trucks right now, I don’t need to see any of them haha

I think Bentonville is a good idea fwiw. A buddy of mine has ridden there and raved about it; the Waltons put tons of money into the area in general as well as the biking scene. Also, gotta get some bbq if you're coming through Memphis. Central BBQ is my fav and the Summer Ave. location is pretty easy to get to from the interstate. If you want a hole in the wall kind of place, Payne's is incredible, it's just a little out of the way from I-40. Depending on how much time you want to spend in town, biking on the Big River Crossing is unique. Not exactly bombing singletrack, but will give you great views of downtown Memphis, plus you could say you biked across Big Muddy.

Hope you're the photography type and will post pics of the trip man! It sounds awesome

Not sure how out of the way it would be but maybe new mexico? I've never ridden there but seen video looks awesome. I think everyone else recommended it, but definitely hit up Moab! Fruita is epic as well!

That book was hilarious... and simultaneously kinda frightening.

Also, tried it in Iraq. Doesn't work. :D
