Single optima yellow top. I forget what size but it’s bigger than oem.

Show us on the doll where YM hurt you. J/k I had no clue how bad these guys were. Specialty shops tend to have a little built in pretentiousness but what's the specifics - bad gear setups and ???

Exactly...bad gear setup and an absolute refusal to honor their written warranty. I followed the gear break in to the T....only had 1 offroad trip in the 8K miles I put on it and it broke the gears accelerating to get on the freeway. I didnt even mention that they put in 5:12's instead of 4.88's that I requested..so I had to wait over a holiday weekend for them to redo it. YM excuse was that there were 5:12 gears in a 4:88 box. Ok....but I noticed it because i saw 5:12 stamped on the ring gear after I got home with it.
I only passed on my experience with YM without voiceing what I really thought of them...but I do feel the same way as @Rakso about them.

I mean you can count the teeth and do math if it’s not clear - I’d imagine a shop that does a lot of gear setups would start to notice what different ratios look like even if missing the ratio stamped on the ring gear.

I mean you also would think such a large company like 4wp would know what they're doing when setting up gears, since they do heeps and full-size trucks all the time. I know most people liken them to the stealership in terms of their technicians botching installs, and I'm not saying it isn't true, but I have had good luck with the one in riverside when I've needed their assistance. This is the first issue I've had throughout the years. I have an appointment on wednesday for them to inspect them, they said they wanna see if they can determine if cause of the failure was their install or my gears I brought them. I followed the break-in 500 miles religiously and only drove my truck within a 10 mile radius. At least it's the rear diff, if it has to be redone I'll probably take it to a dedicated driveline shop and see if they can figure out why the diff is causing such harsh reverberations throughout my driveline.

I think it's already been mentioned but if you have a DD you could send the diff to ZUK, he's got write ups where he checks the mesh pattern and preloads/backlash before he tears things apart to figure out what's wrong. Some of his write ups are bizarre, like people setting up gears without even checking the contact pattern.

That's right, thanks for reminding me. This guy sounds like a gear scientist. I have a car I can use, but I don't own it. If 4wp isn't willing to do anything for me, I think I'll go to him. At this point I don't mind taking the third apart since I'm out of a truck right now anyway.

If you'd like to minimize stretch, especially for a 20", I always recommend trail gear rock assault 6-ply. Had two sets of them after changing suspension and still reliable. Then I went to double. Most likely will snap the clevis so need to change to a bracket style mount.

Here's a set of straps that came in a kit, holding the 4 ply vs 6 ply.

While I'm here, anyone with a bender that can make me some tube for the bypass? Need one for my Dirt Designz mount! Much appreciated

Where did you get those spacers?

Trail Gear actually supplies them in their kit. 4 pieces per strap. Otherwise, hit up mcfaddendale industrial hardware. They should have similar collar spacers.

Right on - there’s one a few minutes away in Anaheim. I looked all over on McMaster Carr and other places on line but couldn’t find any reasonably priced ones so I made my own out of some tube. It wasn’t the easiest thing with just a grinder but eventually I got some passable results.

I'd look for standard 8" coilovers - by the time you swap out rod ends and springs you're not gonna save any money over a used set of standard 8" coilovers or buying a brand new pair.

TC has a custom spec for their kit so these are not the same as a standard 8” shock. Not saying they won’t work, but I agree with @Dalandser in saying it won’t be cost effective for you to try and make these fit on your truck.

This. I tried making standard 2.5x8’s work on a TC kit and it was more expensive than worth it. Just buy the TC spec’d coilovers, easier in the long run.

Anyone running an alignment cam delete kit, specifically the one from poly performance? Are alignment shops still willing to give you an alignment with them installed or do you get a fresh alignment and then install them and hope nothing changes while you change them over?
