People are glued to the news now, pre this crises they were circling the drain. You have people running youtube channels pulling down almost triple the ratings of the major new networks.

I'm just going off pure $$$ and staying relevant, not playing any political angle.

 

The media sure pushed an agenda against a certain someone for the last 3 years, do you really think they aren't still against that person? A failing economy hurts that person, the dots are easy to connect.

 

Because fear sells!

 

A lot of air travel might be slow, I think everyone will be so happy to be able to go outside and local restaurants, etc. even the local crappy restaurants will be packed, that we'll see two things. 1 - Everyone is so happy to be able to do things locally they never wanted to do before, they'll have little incentive to travel to do things. 2 - There will be some small fear of traveling for a while.

Flipside - travel is so cheap, places that were out of reach before are now well within budget confines, might as well go!

I don't know - and I won't pretend to. I'm not expecting a big economic slow down anymore, and I'm not expecting airlines to take off from the starting gun like other industries.

 

certainly makes sense for the media to want a controversial subject that drives ratings and makes press conferences must see to be replaced with someone pretty boring. Meanwhile you rank the economy and cost the owners of these media companies countless dollars across other industries where they are invested.

 

To them, self-destruction is worth it to try to take down that person I won't mention. That's what I believe at least.

Also, the media is a in win-win situation, they're getting viewers, which equals ad revenue. I don't even think they're hurting themselves much, if at all.

 

They don't care, just look at WaPo, NYT, CNN and others that have taken a loss for years.

 

Keeping an eye on JETS. It's at an all time low...but I think it's still going down several dollars. It might even be worth some PUTS. I would buy in sub $10...or just buy LUV...Discount air is going to survive the price wars. They've already been managing the low prices.

Another worth a look is RDN - Radeon Group. They basically provide/service PMI (Mortgage insurance) If fanny and freddy now require 20% down to clear PMI sooo many more mortgages are going to need PMI so the PMI Servicing companies could see 2x the work. The stock is down sub $15 from a pre-covid $25 with a $0.50 dividend...I'm thinking of buying 100 shares to spread out my coverage. I don't want to be too locked into one sector.

 

anything is possible. But ad revenue is in the dumps. And cnn for one has had their most profitable years in the last 4 years for what it’s worth.

 

QQQ worth a long term hold? Dividends are weak at 0.6% ish, but that might just be the current situation affecting that.

Discount air runs razor thin in an industry already running razor thin, some small ones in Europe have already thrown in the towel.

Not bad with RDN, good point too a lot of people might be looking to lock in such a low rate and buy when they have the advantage even if it means PMI for a few years (Heck, that's what we did in 2017 and it's been well worth it!)

 

QQQ has been killing it for years. I never would have expected tech to continue to rally like this for years, even through this crash. I don't see any reason it will stop anytime soon. I think it's up this year too, which is incredible.

 

GPMT (was a 26% loss for me this morning) is up 15% today after news broke that they “undershot earnings estimate”. Makes perfect sense...

I watched a side-by-side of this. They literally stopped the interview right before Barr discussed the "rule of law," then proceeded to destroy him for not discussing the rule of law. I can't imagine how anybody could ever watch that network after something like that, but it's probably happened thousands of times, and people still watch!

 

I sold pretty early today. I had been hoping to just get my money back but it really spiked on the news. It’s like if they are still actively reporting anything, it’s good news, we can look at the numbers later.

Yeah, It was linking to the wrong video, but I fixed it. I really don't like to bring politics into other thread, but we were discussing the media...There's a reason that shows like Greg Gutfeld show on FOX on a Saturday night at 10pm is beating EVERY late night show...The cumulative ratings for all episodes of any late night show for the week lost to his single show on Saturday night...I tell anyone who isn't ripping their hair out anti-trump to give the show a try. It's funny, and different and does take shots at all sides. He's libertarian and was not for Trump pre-2016...They do funny bits..and really do a great breakdown of the ridiculous coverage of the news readers each week...

 

I'm a huge Gutfeld fan. Steve Hilton and Jesse Watters are spot on as well, but Gutfeld's show is hilarious.
