Restaurants won't exist in 18 months if they're closed.

It's the same as EVERYWHERE else..population density and mass transit determines spread rate. It's that simple. BTW where are you
RI has crazy unemployment...Like 30% of the state lost their job...and then they halted Benefits due to fraud....
The virus runs rampant in dense communities and public transit...these areas generally coincide with lower levels of education and a lack of understanding of the importance of social distancing...which spreads it more and repeat...

BT's smokehouse and Tilly's cheese steaks...both better survive

The Northwest corner of the state--2 minutes from Vermont, 20 from New York. Virtually no mass transit here and quite rural.

And our elected officials here could give zero fucks. Our governor flew his family down to their estate in florida where they have been since this all kicked off.

I see the wind turbines on Florida Mountain from my back yard. Not much up there except abandoned motels at this point!

Restaurants in GA were allowed to reopen Apr 24th, though with substantial restrictions on distancing/masks/#ofpeople/etc. Many decided to just keep doing carryout/curbside, others just opened their outdoor patios.

We'll see how that works out - doesn't seem too bad yet, though there's of course lag both in exposure/symptoms and reporting. Governor having a news conference at 4pm today since the exec order on some of the restrictions is set to expire tomorrow and my guess is it'll be extended.

We have busses but hardly anyone uses them in RI.

Unemployment is similar to the rest of the country and most of it is temporary. A lot of RI is services, restaurants, etc.

The benefits were suspended but probably short term.

I have heard interviews of people in the restaurant industry, I think one guy said 50% capacity might break even. It's not going to work.

Depends on the restaurant of course. Some are doing a heck of a lot of curbside/takeaway business.

Texas opened restaurants to 25% capacity. I have worked as a server, and wouldn't wanna wait tables for such a low crowd. Even if there are people lined up, there just isnt enough there for everyone.

Pretty sure pools and hair salons opened last week and gyms will open this week. Pretty upset about gyms as the gym I go to is a crowded place and they will have limits on capacity. Essentially it will be too full to ever go, but they are able to start charging people dues again.

Yea restaurants are going to be tough. A few small town places near me have already quit. One in particular surprised me as they have been there as long as I remember.

I grew up in a beach town where 99% of the restaurants are curbside windows. But, there's no tourists to use the windows since travel isn't allowed there....

Someone talked about investing in gyms a while back. I am giving that a big Hell No - I know for me, the moment they open, I'm going in and closing my membership after they charged me and then told me they didn't. I sent an email that basically said "Okay, you just put it in writing that you didn't charge me for the month so I will flag it as fraud, must have been someone mimicking your debits", had a higher level manager respond within an hour.

BUT my contract says I need to close my account IN PERSON, AT LOCATION - and I am not trusting gyms with my bank account number to do something off-contract, even in this mess. I am following my signed contract to a T.

Clearly, I have trust issues. BUT they didn't charge me for April (May 11, time will tell...)

The game changer here in (CA) is take away booze. I have been hitting up my favorite Mexican joint for tacos and margaritas on Fridays after work.
I think it's helping the business of restaurants with bars, others in my work area are struggling according to the manages I know.

Our liquor stores have stayed open (can't cut off substance dependencies, thus, essential). They're doing take out beer/wine already, mixed drinks starting soon, I believe.

I am sure everyone knows about O, but now is the time to load up on it. They are in retail so got beat down, but just declared a dividend "in-line with previous." The discount right now is probably 33% or so from recent prices.

Yep, liquor stores remained open. Gun/ammo stores were also declared essential (it's GA).

Restaurants have been allowed to do takeout but it's not been a deal. Rather go to the liquor store with the drive up window or the other one with online order / curbside pickup.
