    Obscure Canadian band:canada:

    Today's dose...Red Rider. Lunatic Fringe.

    I like the groove

There will be a somewhat reprise in the future, I'll reference it when it happens

It's hard to know what non Canadians are exposed to when it comes to Canadian bands...there's the obvious, Rush, Neil Young, god help us Beebs, Nickleback. Then there's the not likely stuff like Teenage Head, Northern Pikes, Headpins. Then there's the grey area...Red Rider, Helix, Tragically Hip. Then there's the oh shit, I didn't know HE was Canadian, or SHE was. A lot of peeps know Robbie Robertson in The Band's Up on Cripple Creek. Do many know he is Canadian? I dunno

So, that's kinda my line on choosing stuff here. Folks down in NOLA might very well be familiar with The Hip, cuz that's where they cut their teeth when they first toured. But prolly not many on the west coast would be able to name a tune.

Up here in Canada the CRTC (FCC is US equivalent) mandates radio/television broadcast maintains a percentage of Canadian content (I seem to recall 10%) in order to keep their license. Without getting into the political opinion side of that tho, the silver lining is local content is exposed further...without it our airwaves would be completely US content with a sprinkle of Nickleback, and we all know how painful that would be...and you do know because US airways are filled with mostly US content, with a sprinkling of Nickleback. We toss a Rush in there every once in awhile cuz we're a benevolent country. Til then you get Nickleback, Beebs and Celine Dion.

Now, every couple decades or so, we'll twist up the world and unleash the likes of a Leonard Cohen on it...but we're no different in that regard than any other country. They all have their greats...except Luxembourg, I don't know any from there.

    TL;DR I'm stoned!:rasta: And I promise I won't post a dreaded W band

I was just pointing out that Lunatic Fringe is played by classic rock stations down here a bunch!

Ya, I'll concede that, cuz it's their most known for song...

Today's dose (b)...Tom Cochran. Big League

Same guy...also great tune. This is the reprise from my first post today. Tom eventually grew bigger than Red Rider, at least here. Became Tom Cochran and Red Rider, then just Tom Cochran.

Must be a John Mellon Cougercamp deal...dunno
