Traded in my 2011 for 2020 in December. Less than 2k miles on it. Just took a look under the wheel to check frame and see this. WTF all the bolts rusted. This covered? It looks like this been going on for awhile.

    Arghhh what the hell Toyota

It's normal that's why and there have been quite a few threads on this topic.

Your page says you live in NH.

Salty roads + slush/water/ice + time = rust. Most of the rust I see is on unpainted, untreated metal.

Wash it thoroughly and fluid film, or other treatment of choice, or you are going to rust.

You're probably going to rust anyway, but you can slow it down if you get on it. Toyota does not control the laws of chemistry, It's up to you to protect the metal as best you can.

I live in Mass and my frame etc has been treated with Fluid Film since day one, and redone every year thereafter.

Just look at the build thread
You're in NH? Of course it's going to rust.

+1 for Fluid Film. A case of 6 cans, sometimes 8 cans, does the job.

I see nothing abnormal for someone living in the Northeast. Fluid Film. They're metal bolts... did you expect Toyota to paint them or only use stainless?

Stop the rust first. Use a rust converter before you fluid film it. And do any work/maintenance first.

Unfortunately the steel on vehicles, fittings etc are all fucking junk. I agree there is no reason why we should have these problems. Just cheap.

Looking at Eastwood Converter but gotta order it, local NAPA should have CRC Converter. Preference? Was not expecting this project on brand new truck.

    Got my CustomCarGrill installed though....

Bolts are cheap. I would be more worried about the small rust flecks on your frame. That suggests to me given the youth of your Taco that you live in a really heavily salted place. That will be a lot worse in a couple of years.

So, if I were you, I would Fluid Film all the things. Now.
