In fairness though, you were probably using a $350 electric saw (that's about what most of the bigger cordless saws cost) to a specialized gas saw built from a Husq (576 XP) that costs $900. Right now the best cordless saws are pushing about 2000 watts (a little over 2.5hp). That Husq saw is 4300 watts. For 3x the cost, I could build you a 5000 watt cordless saw that could compete pretty well with that Husq. But very few people walking in Home Depot are going to pay that.

I've noticed the batteries can get pricey. The top DeWalt battery is $249.00. Ain't going there. Also, most cordless saws are sold without the batteries and charger. No doubt because of sticker shock that comes with the combo.

You’re rite. Ventmasters are beefed up saws built by Tempest and they cost around $2k new. LOL. We also use K12 circular saws that cut like a hot knife through butter on 8 layers of tar paper with wood.

The electric chainsaw is perfect for boarded up windows and doors but I guess you can’t really compare it to the gas saws we use.

like I said though, I’ve used an electric one a couple times camping and it’s been great for that use. I just don’t think I would buy one for Anything other than just that, cutting smaller dead trees and branches. If I had a large property with a bunch of down trees i needed to cut up I would go for gas.

Yea. I get contacted a lot by fire departments looking for a cordless electric chainsaw for rescue work. They think we can recreate the performance of the VentMaster for $300. Or they want us to special build a saw for them but they only want to buy 2. The performance isn’t that outrageous. Some cordless tools are already operating close to the power levels of that Husq. As battery cost decreases in the next few years, I think it we’ll see more chainsaws that can compete with the bigger gas saws. Already I think the electric saws have almost made the 25cc-40cc saws obsolete. Gas sales are mostly flat in outdoor power equipment but cordless continues to grow by double digits.

I have no experience with the battery powered saws, but our Husqvarna 455 Rancher has been an absolute beast. We bought it in 2009 and used it heavily the first year cleaning up here on the farm after a big ice storm. I’ve worn one bar out already. It’s 11 years old and still starts up and idles like new, even coming out of storage after sitting for almost a year. I always run 89 octane pump gas with Stihl synthetic oil and usually a little marine Sta-bil. If it drops dead on me the next time I use it, it was money well spent and I’ll probably go buy the same saw again. They still sell it, I think they’re going for about $450.

Depends. I know a several people cutting down and bucking 36” oaks with a cordless saw. It’s definitely hard on the saw though. But it’d be hard on a small gas saw too.

Cordless electric saw only can replace about a 40cc gas saw. That’s not a very big saw, but it’s a common entry level size saw. If you need more saw than that, gas is your only option.

Curious as to why people can't start there saws???
I have never had this problem, and have been running many saws for many years.

Ethanol in the gas seems to be the main culprit. Gums up in the carbs if you leave it sit in there.

I know dewalt approached a few fireman I know and had 0 idea that we were using some of their products in the fire service lol. They were very interested in trying to engineer better tools for conditions we encounter.

Some saws sit for 6 months plus with gas in them.
Are people running low grade gas in them?
I only run high octane and only use Stihl additive... maybe this will help?

I'll be interested to see if Milwaukee puts their new MX battery in a larger chainsaw platform.
