What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

OEM. I haven't had luck with aftermarket brands when I had to replace one. Finally just picked up a used OEM one from someone on here that was parting out their truck. The aftermarket ones shake/rattle way too much

 

Love the 'action' shots of the press we don't get to see many pics of presses in here. Not too common of a garage tool for most. I dig your setup.
And that tool you fabbed looks like the bees knees or maybe the cat's meow, if you prefer

 

They're pretty old

Gotta have a press! Harbor freight is the defacto standard.. they're cheap as hell and incredibly useful. I think I bought mine for $150

 

That's what I figured

 

That is an older design Sway-A-Way Racerunner 2.0 coilover by the look of it. With the pre-load adjuster on the bottom. They originally came with red powder coated coils IIRC.

 

Even the used OEM one I got shakes a bit. I'm sure there's a way to open the case up and tighten it down I just haven't looked into it yet.

 

That all checks. Original coils were red and 675lb. I didn’t know that and bought 650 lb springs because the red ones deformed a little and 650 was the stiffest I could find at the time. They were way too soft so I just bought some 700’s

 

Finally getting around to painting the cap I found at the pick-n-pull

 

Probably the fan bracket bearing unless it’s been changed out before,
But the AC idler pulley goes out a lot

 

Had two different painters quote painting mine last week, one was $400, one was $200.

I paid 250 to have my 8ft cap painted. Cake out great. Body shops love caps (at least mine did) because preps easy

 

Made some progress on my aux fuse block tonight.

 

Great for u joints, ball joints, bearings, gear swaps, and taco gussets!

 

Whaaat. Prep was horrible in this case Multiple layers of old paint to sand off. I suppose it's easy when you have a sand blasting area. I sometimes wonder where they cut corners. As was the case with my Honda Fit's rear bumper when the clear coat began peeling after a year or so because of improper prep.

 

is your cap fiberglass or no?

 

The guy who quoted me $200, I told him I’d take all the windows out. I need to reseal them anyway.

 

I like this setup a lot. Might copy it. Could you retain the tailgate now that it's moved back?

Destroyed my valve stem and tested my Colby valve for the for the first time, was a fan of how well it worked and how easy it was to install.
