    tried to get up to Fairy Lake in the bridgers this morning...no go. Had to stop about 2 miles from the lake - there was almost a foot of snow up there already!

    that looks fun. I will be throwing the chains on and making it the the parking lot this week. I broke trail last year through about 2-3ft of snow with no tracks and then the next day I found 5 cars at the lot. Guess I did all the backcountry skiers a service.

    They certainly could have used that today - I passed about a dozen skiers hiking up. There was an FJ almost stuck just up the road from where I stopped, he spun out and made a nice, shiny mess out of everything. There was a good foot of snow at least up there! Definitely need chains and more if you try to make it the whole way. I had no chains and no weight in the back so I took it pretty easy.

    so anyone know of any good places to go around saco or malta? i just got back from saco today..one day trip 800 miles..long drive. im gonna be there all next summer for an internship so im gonna need something to do lol

    I wouldn't go so far as to call anything in AK 'civilized'. :rolleyes:And trust me the only things the two places have in common are that they both get snow and they both have mountains.

    Never been up there, and can't say that I ever plan to either!

    Fun? If you think white-knuckling it down a snowy, muddy road with no weight in the bed and new tires is fun...:D...then yea!

    It wasn't fun, thats why I left. :) See us girls sometimes do crazy things in life...like get married and move to AK. And then we come to our senses, hire a lawyer, and live happily ever after...in MT.
    And I will admit that there are a few things about AK that I miss - flying, dogsledding and my 'pet' mooses (I had five wild moose that more or less lived with me). Pretty short list I know!
