I have done a similar analysis. Yes the used Tacoma is worth more. My point is how much more did the person pay for it new compared to the Nissan. As I stated one would expect a more expensive vehicle to be worth more than a cheaper one 5 or 10 years down the road.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
The point I hear you saying is that you could've got your money out of the 'more expensive' vehicle in this case. The cost of a car is the difference between what you buy it for and what you sell it for (plus repair costs if needed.)

I paid around 22K for a new ‘06 Frontier. 5 years later got 10k for it on trade for the Tacoma. 5 years later checked the value of the Tacoma and it was still worth the same as I paid for it....so about that value.

OK. if you say so. I highly doubt your 5 year old Tacoma was worth the same as you purchased it new. If it is true, then all I can say is some Tacoma buyers are not very sharp. There are rare exceptions but all vehicles depreciate. :crapstorm:

Let me clarify I purchased the Tacoma used. Truck was a year old with 10k on the odometer. So I traded Frontier for 10k and financed 14k (If I remember correctly) for a 2011 TRD Sport.

FWIW the Tacoma is still worth more at 9 years old and 100k miles than the 5-6 year old Frontier I traded with less the 70k on the clock.

You must have not tried purchasing slightly used tacomas or 4runners. I can sell my 2 year old taco right now for more than what i paid for it. They are asking for 40k-42k for a truck like mine. I paid $39500 for it, well plus taxes and all that shit of course.

Thats why i bought a new taco, it didnt make sense to buy a used one, they hold their value like crazy. Thats how it is here anyway, might be different where you are.

    In my experience...

Dealer sales guys love to tout resale value, but when you go to trade in your truck, they usually give you every excuse in the book on why your truck doesn't deserve a fair market value. It's one of the reasons I don't place much value on resale when vehicle shopping. I've never been impressed with any trade-in offers I've received, and I take excellent care of my vehicles.

Im no expert but you won’t get more than you paid for it, even if they are asking more than what you paid for it. They still have to make their own profit.

Back around 03 my neighbor bought a new tacoma only to have the frame rust out a few years later. Had toyota inspect the truck and they deemed it unsafe for the road. A few weeks later he received a check from toyota for 1 1/2 times the book value of the truck. He ended up putting the check toward a new ram.

If you're in the market, now is a great time to get a deal on a leftover Nissan. Local dealer to me has an access cab Pro 4x for 28K.

No I have not tried. Like you, it just does not make sense to me to pay that much for a "used" vehicle when for a bit more I can a new one.

But hey, whatever the market is. Of course if people would quit paying those prices, guess what would happen to the price?

Yep, i hear you man. Its like the housing market in vancouver. Its at least a million to buy a house here, and thats for a little old shack. If you want something nicer, you could pay up to 5 mil. People still pay these prices and houses sell fast. Its pretty disgusting actually. Thats why im stuck in a condo for now, making good money but cant even afford a house. Demand is high here just like for tacomas and 4runners.

I do have to say my brother is a good negotiator. Now I don’t know if he’s telling the truth or not, but he said his OTD price including TTL was $29,955.

It’s the loaded P4X, sunroof, power seats lul, Rockford fosgate, etc.

He said the VQ40 will last just as long as the camrys we bought.

That sounds highly plausible to me on the price.

I also wonder how people could afford those home prices in Canada.
My wife and I have lived below our means. We became debt free about 10 years before retirement. We lived on one salary and invested the other. Now we have a good modest retirement. We like having no debts.

I've grown to really like my 2010 Frontier Pro-4x 6spd, I've had it nearly 6 years now and it's been very solid.
