Interesting. I believe they are using the older version here which I think is longer. We could pull the tube out and see while mounted if it’s being blocked or not. on The newer FJ both are on the same side.

In the install (for FJ/t4r) it did say say to Mojave’s to of S/C or not. I beloved it said the first line. I need to check but that way warrant a trim. Interesting idea though.

I’ll give it another look and see if it would fit with more trimming of the radiator core support but pretty sure I’d need to drastically reduce the tube diameter to make it fit. As for water ingestion, monsoon season brings heavy rain and deep puddles. Don’t plan on fording through deep water, especially with where it’s at now either, but just trying to avoid soaking the filter if possible.

@12TRDTacoma i was curious. Went out and pulled the hose and connection and no blockage. Also no way the helper would go all the way in if it was. we can rule that out as an issue.

Okay good to know. It's an issue that is originating elsewhere then.

Yah we’ll see. @JustDSM got his hands on the OE FJ MAF tune. I am going to give it a run tomorrow on a new tune and see how it goes.

Out of curiosity what is your base tune based off of? Was it borrowed from another truck?

after the TRD tune I would guess to some extent. He sent me one to accommodate the list of mods. Which comes form what he’s seen and it’s had a several revisions since the weekend. I need to get my AFR to get him some good wideband data

    Huh...

Any changes to throttle input, 30% less lag from OE version or 100% like mine, any idea?

Ha like I said, he gave me a tune to start but not sure exact settings. We have been going back and forth on tune revisions since Sunday getting it initially dialed in. Some spicy tuning but not sure all parameters yet. I’m a newb when it comes to tuning.

Thats the same ones I purchased, except my boost gauge only goes up to 15 psi.
I don't think I will ever get that high though.

Just trying to build up my internal checklist on the similarities between what might be your version and mine, if any.

I think the real revelation will be in that idle at take off log that I will be taking for Justin in the coming days or two. Definitely am going to need a helper and my girlfriend will be my personal scribe.

Luckily its a low speed issue and easy to duplicate so I want to get to the bottom of this insanely quickly because I am so hypersensitive to changes that I feel them almost immediately when driving.

More to come soon on this.

Totally. as I am learning more about this I have noticed each change he has made. We can compare notes with Justin and see how mild or similar it is to yours. Right now were trying to get the MAF dialed but my lack of AFR gauge is making it harder than it needs to be. Shooting to get to that this weekend.

I have a new tune with the OE stuff I am going to run a few pulls this week probably tomorrow. Low slow up to 60 from stop and a WOT in 3rd or 4th if I can from 2k to red then a regular driving for comparison.

    Nice man!
You definitely spent some time in there.
That 90° bend and small intake diameter right at the sc shaft hump all the way to the rotors has to restrict flow.

Put the TB PID up in hp tuners and drive. When you feel power loss does it coincide with tb closing?

I'm curious if it due to fpr mod.
See since we are running lower than stock fp at idle the ecu has to make up for it by adding fuel. Then when you accelerate fp rises and the ecu has to adjust.

Then again @JustDSM can come in here and tell me I'm way off and hed be right.

There is very little the same between yours and his. Your throttle is unique to your calibration, your fueling/ignition is unique to your calibration and you're now on the Spicy trans tune, so thats all different as well. Two totally different calibrations.

I’ve developed the same issue. I’m thinking MAF. I haven’t bothered to test it though as I hardly drive the truck on the regular.
