Understood and agree. I have done one offs for customers who required some adjustments to my standard designs and not charged additional fees but instead chalked up the additional hours to "learning". I will typically make two copies of what I send out in that instance to keep a template in case I ever need to duplicate the bracket. If I was unable to buy in bulk then I would have stopped making and selling brackets before now. The last order of aluminum flat bar totaled over $400. One type of screw I use cost over $100 for 1000 of them. I can't buy those screws at Home Depot since they do not sell them that short. But if I could buy them at HD it would cost probably over $2 instead of $.20. I have considered not making brackets any longer but part of the reason I continue is to support the TW community and pretty much most of anything I earn I put towards mods for the truck anyways.

And get to meet cool folks, while their kids hang out eating dinner in the bed of the truck.

    They were well behaved!

And if you lived closer I would invite you over and we would figure out a way to make a new bracket design work....

Yup and you haven't factored in covering overhead for shop space, consumables, various insurances, taxes and misc (we spend a lot on toilet paper and cleaning supplies and crap like that). And you can't really run a business on 0% margin either. And the boss needs to make a paycheck on top of the welders making a paycheck. It adds up quickly to be many times more than just material cost.

And I didn't add in the time it takes to prep for shipping, shipping supplies, the time it takes to communicate with a customer to make sure they are getting the right product for their needs, tool cost, consumables like brake cleaner, MAPP gas, sandpaper etc. I have never figured out exactly how much time I actually have into each bracket. If I found out how much I was paying myself for my efforts I probably would stop doing it!
