From Covid19.colorado.gov there have been deaths in the 10-19 category. This is a handy table of cases and deaths and % of the CO population in each age bin. So 54.6+23.2 = 77.8% of the deaths have happened in 9.2% of the population (70 to 80+):

    upload_2020-5-13_8-16-5.jpg
I find this graph really helpful:

    upload_2020-5-13_8-16-53.jpg

The website is interactive and the fatality rates start to increase at the 50-59 bin - 1.45% dead. Just as important is the hospitalized rate of almost 20%, increasing to 5.5% dead and 27% hospitalized for the 60-69 bin.

Let's extrapolate these numbers to the whole state and ignore hospitalizaitons and deaths of all the other age groups. From the table above Colorado has 12.67+10.91+6.12 + 3.13 = 32.83% of its poplatuion older than 50. 2018 CO population from a quick bing search is 5.7 million - that's 1.87 million people in CO above the age of 50. If everyone gets infected and we apply just the 50-59 hospitalization and fatality rates that would be 27,115 dead and 374,000 hospitalized.

Of course a lot of people have gotten sick, were unable to get tested and did not need hospitalizations. However, a lot of people have died from covid complications and were not able to get tested so were never counted in the statistics. CO is trying to count "probable" covid deaths to account for these but in past pandemics the death rate always ends up being higher a year or two later when all the data has been looked at more closely. So 27k dead and 374k hospitalized is probably a little optimistic.

I'm not going to argue about the shutdown but just that even if we only consider 50+ in CO you're looking at a lot of deaths and hospitalizations and want you to have a good sense of what those numbers would be.

Yep. Good info. Looked at that website last night, as well. The data I pulled was from CDC as of 5/2. Looked again last night and it hasn’t been updated yet.

Is this a cry for help? Has someone kidnapped you and this is your secret way of trying to alert us without the kidnappers knowing?

It's definitely a lose lose situation - we either shut everything down for everyone and save lives and hospitalizations or end up killing a lot of people but make life more convenient for 2/3 of the population. Looking at the polling data though a good 3/4 of the country is not going to go "back to normal" after re-opening so the economy is going to suffer regardless. Same goes for hospital visitation, people are scared of being infected. You can blame the media for this but theres an ice rink near my parents house in MD that's been converted to a temporary morgue. There were refrigerated cargo containers storing bodies in NYC, Italy, China, etc. These are not normal things for a flu so I think people would be freaked out regardless.

My Aunts granddaughter (not sure what that makes her to me) died yesterday in NJ. Still waiting on the autopsy but it was likely COVID. She was 27 with no known preexisting conditions. I didn’t know her or have a relationship with her, but it certainly drives home the fact that being under 50 doesn’t make you bulletproof.

More of a dirt road with campsites, but it was Dakan Rd. If you want an afternoon joyride, I would head up to Switzerland Trail. Its a nice easy casual stroll for a Hump Day afternoon.

Heftier fines are needed, instant fines for 1st time offenders, loss of license for 2nd time, 3rd time you're evicted from Colorado. Trail cameras to catch plate numbers, more patrolling by rangers. Does this all cost money? Yeah, but I bet it'll save in the long run vs paying to clean, fix shit and close trails. Maybe the Stay The Trail guys can get the power to write tickets, a lot like small towns with "volunteer police"

The last few times I've been down Highway 67 to the gulches, it's been packed. There were closed signs on all official camp grounds and people were still inside them. SO the next weekend, the entire entrance was roped off. Next they roped off the bathrooms, people pulled the tape down. It's been awful down that way

Haha... it "starts". People have been leaving their poop and trash (both landfill items as well as bullet shells/clays, abandoned trailers, et al) on all public lands for a long time because it's "their land" and they "can do what they want".
