Not sure what the confusion here is about. Some of these trucks have built in Wi-Fi hotspots. Which can actually be very useful on long trips with kids, etc. Unlimited ATT data is $15 a month in my chevy volt.

Also, Verizon service has gone to shit in Western NC so the ATT connection is a godsend when Verizon data often doesn't work. As far as I know, the hotspots turn off in all cars when the ignition is off. Some Chevy guys leave their volts turned on with rubber bands around the shifter holding down the shift button, it keeps the car on. But its an EV so it barely uses any of the battery power. I would not idle a gasoline vehicle for wifi while camping.

I doubt you can use it on these trucks without the key in accessory at least. However I am glad to have it.

Am I missing something? Can't every modern phone act like a mobile hotspot? So just do that on your phone and use your tablet or laptop or what ever it is that you are going to use that way. That's something that you are already paying for why have ANOTHER internet device when you carry one with you everyday already. And if you are going to say that you want to use the car wifi for your phone then I'm sorry but that would be the dumbest most redundant thing ever.

"It's basically a wifi hotspot that's powered by your OBD2 connection" Where did you find that the WIFI hotspot is powered by the OBDII port? I have a ELM327 plugged into that port for the Torque app.

In my case, Verizon is terrible in my area over the last year. I am glad to have these ATT hotspots in my car. Has saved me a ton of headache. There are still areas of the United States without consistent coverage.

He doesn't know what he is talking about and got confused with a 3rd party offering that allows any 1996+ car with an OBD-II port to have a cellular wifi connection. Some Tacomas do have built in wifi hotspots from the factory and it has nothing to do with the OBD-II port.

This is whole streaming videos while camping thing keeps fucking with me... Are you streaming videos of other people camping? Is it like that thing where you turn on your video game to watch other people play video games?... That's so weird.

You are missing it, switching isn't some simple thing when you have various devices on payment plans, etc. Whats wrong with using a feature of the truck? You seem against it.

There are a few shows the wife and I like to watch as we are getting ready for bed. We are preparing for a trip across the US and like to stay up to date with our current programming. Our camper is our home on wheels and we like our comforts.

How else is someone supposed to know if they are camping right? What if their phone can't tether to their wiffy and then they miss the first 5 seconds of the latest "20 thing you need to buy to go camping" youtube vid! What then!?

YES BUT, the vehicle has better range, speed and has cheaper rates for unlimited data than my phone.

Oh, ok... Well, I'm going to go with our definitions of camping being completely different... All good. Enjoy your trip.

Maybe RV'ing instead of camping? IDK camping and off-roading are very very broad terms

Can't speak for all, but it would be extra on my plan for hotspot service. I don't have a use for it, so nbd. Also, service coverage may vary. Or maybe they want to avoid certain ISP throttling? People have their reasons for wanting it, I'm sure.
Again, this has already been a service available on other makes for a while.

Is that like tossing the pigskin around while waiting to watch kickoff on the big screen?

    So, so weird.

Yeah, people are different. So weird.

People getting worked over things that don't affect them...

Woah, sheriff. I stated that our definitions were different. I thought he meant something else. You can put your badge & your gun away now... & i don’t care what kind of weird shit you do with a football before football games, pigskin boy, but i’m not even close to being worked up yet. It’s so weird that you would think that.
