I just got a Magnaflow muffler installed a couple weeks ago and just noticed how low it's hanging. It hangs slightly lower than the frame....I have no clue why the exhaust shop did that . Maybe they only had the one that fit? Not sure why it's pointed down like that instead of sitting flat. I feel like I'm going to hit it offroading for sure. Anyone have any ideas/thoughts?

Looks like they did that for ease of installation, I'd take it back and have them bend pipe to make is sit flush.

Looks like a crappy job. I would take it back as ask them to do it properly. I hope you didn't pay them too much.

That's just laziness on the part of the installer. It's not uncommon IME.

it's an offset in and center out muffler: maybe there isn't enough room to mount it flat. For that muffler, the install quality looks good to me; but if you're not happy with it, go back and pick out another muffler that will mount flat. But if you want to use the existing front pipe, you may be limited.

It's a muffler shop. They can make an adapter to any shape they desire to make it fit properly. They just took a lazy cheap way to do the job and thought the OP wouldn't notice. If it were mine I would protest unless they told you in advance they were doing it that way.

My 3" magnaflow sits flat. They were either lazy or the muffler offset is wrong

Called today and he said that "if he mounted it like that chances are that's the only way it would fit but to bring it back over and he'll see what he could do". Gonna be super pissed if he installed an offset one that only fits like that and I'm out $150. If I rip it off offroading that's fine I just dont want to catch it on something and do damage further up the exhaust, manifolds or something.

I hate when I don’t pay attention to the work being done on my truck and then wait two weeks to look to see how it was done.

I gave it a quick glance while it was up in the air, looked normal from that angle but noticed it sitting so low when I was out camping. Do you look underneath your truck daily? Weekly?

If I was having a muffler installed and wanted it a certain way, damn right I would have looked before they even started welding and said this is how I want it installed. Then checked before I paid for it and drove off. Call me crazy. But then I wouldn’t be having to have it redone cause I checked the first time.

Fair enough. Absolutely my fault for not checking.

If they’re a good shop they should fix for free, good customer service. It’s a quick fix. Good luck.

I looked at my truck and the stock muffler hangs down about an inch below the bottom of the front portion of the leaf spring. The bottom of it looks at the same level as OPs picture #1. It's offset in at the top and offset out at the bottom, centered on the muffler body from right to left.

Out of curiosity I went and snapped a pic of my stock muffler for you. Hard to tell from your angle but it looks like yours isn't much, if any, lower than stock.

Well, I'm at the shop right now. It's getting tucked up into the frame and turned sideways. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for all the tips and help everyone!

Guy fixed it no complaints for $10 and was kind enough to cut my exhaust so it dumps just past the axle. Gave him a 6 pack for being nice and reasonable. Totally my own fault for not being thorough.
