I don't think I've ever pulled the weld unless it was the only way I could make the weld.

Is that gas less flux core wire? And if you want to completely fuse those 2 pieces together, you need to do a v-groove, grind a bevel on both pieces. fill up one side flip it over Grind out Down to clean metal and fill it back in with weld. Then cut a strip out horizontally grind down the welds on both sides and then bend it Into a U At the weld.

I’ve always read and practiced the same. Slag you drag so you don’t contaminate the puddle.

More shock towers. Hopefully they don’t have to come out of the hood . Customer is set on using the 16” coilovers he got for the front and still wants decent uptravel

I've read that beveling the work piece edges helps, i'll give it a try at some point. And yeah, its gas less flux core wire, .030. Just the stuff it came with from HF. I'm going to pick up some more from Northern Tool today.

appreciate it. Only a matter of practicing

from the welds you initially posted to the more recent ones it’s been a night and day difference of improvement (even with the small flux welder)

Keep taking tips and tricks from these guys, practice, and you’ll be improving daily

Sorry. Steve Jackson is the current world champion ProMod driver and has been the fastest man on a radial tire for years. His team has always been called KTR or "Killin Time Racing" I thought you might have known who he was.

Almost finished with some weld on 2019 Raptor sliders for a friend. I hate the frames on Fords. They taper and are more complicated to work with. Tacos are so much easier with their nice flat straight frames haha.

    Finished these stupid things.

He has plans to mount an accessory off the frame where the second leg would be on the passenger side so I just linked the 1st and 3rd leg together to add rigidity.

Went and saw my buddy who bought this welder, he bought a new 15' gun for it and has been welding a lot with it. He said it works good.

Yep! Every leg on the sliders had to be different, frame tapered in and up. If I had to do any more of them I would definitely make a jig

Hey all, been practicing a lot these past few days, and my welds are getting better. At least more acceptable. Thanks for all the tips, I’ve pretty much used this thread as a substitute for a friend who knows how to weld. My eyes are opened to the depth of skill required to actually make a living as a welder. On the surface, it seems simple to the average person. But that’s far from reality.

I got this welder because it was $100 and I needed to hastily tack weld an exhaust hanger,
but now I’m actually interested in learning how to weld, because it’s really fun, and a break from woodwork. Thanks again guys. Anything I ever post feel free to critique and laugh at! I know the retard “welds” in my first post made someone laugh lol. Ok...end blog post.
