What kind of brake controller, i'm kinda new to hauling with my 1st gen. I've pulled a small utility trailer, but my needs are glowing from my small 5x8 to a 7x14 tandem and i'll need a brake controller for it, but i don't know where to start. Any advice?

basically any brake controller will do the job. The more expensive units, like the Tekonsha has more options, inertia sensor, etc.

Never towed a thing in my life, but I’m moving 1200 miles and have my Tacoma and another car I gotta move. Is towing a 3500lb car on a flatbed possible or will I break the Tacoma

My trailer was about 4000 lbs in that photo. I didn't go much above 65 and gas mileage sucked, but it wasn't a problem. What may be a problem is the flatbed.... The car is already at 3800 so a 2000 lb flatbed means you are pulling at least 5800 pounds. My taco caps out at 6600 lbs so I'd be wary. But I've only towed a couple times more than you (my first trailer) so someone may have a better assessment.

2020 Jayco 212 QB; Right at 4,300 lbs unloaded; Pulled for the first time loaded last week to campground. Tacoma 3.5 V-6 with WDH and brake control did ok. About what I expected. It will pull it at 65, but it likes 55 a lot better. 9-10 mpg. It's about all I would want to tow with this truck.

You wont break your truck, but if you've never towed anything a 5.5k trailer plus other moving related items may not the the best way to learn. Uhaul trailers are upwards of 2-2.5k lbs and I suspect you'll want to add on as much as you can fit in your truck and second car. Not impossible by any stretch if weights and balancing are kept in check, but maybe see if you have a friend who has experience towing who wants to help get situated or at least share some of the driving.

Towed this over the weekend. I wished I had stock sized tires for better gearing. 5,000 lbs dry for this setup.

Towed our new Polaris XP4 Turbo S this past weekend. With a bed full of gear, RTT, tandem axle trailer + RZR, we stayed in the slow lane :)
I should also mention my truck didn't come with the tow package, so I've had to do a lot of things after the fact to make it tow ready. This week I'll be tapping into the wiring to enable a brake controller install.
On this trip, engine braking in Sport mode helped a ton. Uphill in S4 with ECT on was also a necessity. Also considering adding the extra leaf to my RXT's, the durobumps had a good amount of hits once we got offroad.
But holy crap this RZR is fun :D
