I'm not one to seek help, I've taken it to several mechanics and them and myself cannot figure it out.

I have a 97, with new: fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, ecu, spark cables (coil packs are on the way), crank sensor, new fuses, new relays(EFI, Open circuit relay), battery,

It will crank, but no start, was running fine, wouldn't turn back on, no codes, I tried disconnecting the Cam shift sensor to see if that would make a difference. Still nothing

    4 run, 2 don't
    Welcome to the forum.

To better help, it's best to find out when you had the no start issue.

You threw a bunch of parts at it, but fail to explain if these parts were replaced before or after your problem occurred.

It's not getting spark or fuel, or air - did anyone spray starting fluid in there to get it to run momentarily?

So, the truck ran, when it turned on it would stay on. But if you turned it off it would struggle to get going again. But not relating to the a starter as the issue. Starter fluid would get it going every now and again. So I checked the spark, When I get spark, I get fuel and air. But when I dont see spark, the fuel pump also doesn't turn on. It seems like something is telling it to protect itself from running. But, it will crank no matter what

This sounds like a tougher one.
Do you know if the shops used Toyota OEM parts on these components you've had them replace?

So when you do get spark & fuel does it start?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 5vz-fe needs to see engine rpm for fuel pump to kick on. I would say since you already replaced all those stuff already then replace the camshaft speed sensor also. I had a similar issue before, no start, no codes replaced crank and camshaft speed sensor and fired right up.

Yes! When it works it works great! I think the camshaft sensor might be my problem. Its my last hope at this point

You are correct. The computer needs to get the signal that the coils are firing for the injectors to pulse. The computer sends out a signal when to fire the spark plugs and it receives a signal back verifying that it fired. The tricky part now is figuring out what is preventing it from sparking. It could be cam/crank sensor or any part of the ignition system. This all assumes that you are sure it is not sparking the times when it won't start.

Chris you are going to have to tell us what motor you have... from your description it sounds like a 2.7 - 4 cylinder.

Okay! I'm back, I changed the cam position sensor, no luck, my coil packs are coming in tomorrow. Maybe that'll work.

    Its the 5vz-fe motor, V6, with a 5 speed manual tyranny, 4x4

Sounds like a Ecm issue could be as simple as a poor ground or damaged wires .

Has the bulb for the check engine light ever come on.

Surprising none of the shops picked up on this. What happens when a code reader or scanner is plugged in?

Now all those other parts added to the mix make finding the root cause more difficult.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Try staring it in neutral by using the clutch cancel switch (don't push the clutch in).

I've tried starting it with the clutch and the cancel start switch, the light bulb does work but does not come on with any problems, my OBD 1 connector was scanner by the mechanic shop, they stated it was missing the pin for the fuel pump which is bizzare. The obd2 port does not show any problems. Im trying to get a good scanner to see if the cam and crank rhythms looks good

Toyota removed the Fp pin for the fuel pump in models in the 90's even though the label still says Fp. I'm not sure it is "bizarre". Toyota has some sort of diagnostic tool that can be used to turn the fuel pump on through the OBD2 port.

does it sound like it's trying to start at all? like a miss?

is there any way to tell if there is signal coming from the sensor or by-pass and activate fuel pump manually?

just tossing my thoughts out there

You can pull the starter relay then turn the key to START. This will stop the engine from cranking but should turn the fuel pump on.
